This lovely(Bitey...lol) amazon was at a local pet shoppe for about 7 months. A friend of mine saw it and brought it to me. Hes actually in not to bad of shape. He was VERY dehydrated(friend said the pet store had him on sand with no perches) and no water. He had about 3-4 layers of retained shed which you can see in the pic is almost off. His face almost shown appreciation for the bath he has been getting every day. He ate a f/t mouse for me which was a shocker since my friend was told my the store that he hasnt eaten since being with them. Im taking him to my work to be checked out by a vet on firday. Hopefully all will go well for him

Sounds like you're doing a great job with him. And you happened on a beauty at that. I'd like to see him when he's all shed out. As for the feeding, it's not too surprising he ate for you. It was most likely just the store's poor husbandry that caused him to refuse food. Hope all goes well for him at the vet.

Bry

He's a beauty! How can pet store employees take such bad care of an animal? if it's not doing well, and you don't know what you're doing... I'm not talking about mastering the art of Herpotology, but at least go on line for a basic care sheet.

Dude, for most of them it's just a paycheck for a $6/hr job. Most just don't care....

I already have 2 Ammies. If your going to put it up for adoption let me know please. Ed_r@redtailboa.net

And on top of your post J_Riley. Even if the employees do care about the animals.. Rare but it does occasionally happen. The store manager usually puts their foot down that proper care would cost too much to give an Ammie the proper habitat. Granted as we all know thats crap but to closed minded people thats the thought.

Well Ed, I wormed him MYSELF:P today and he nailed me one good time but luckily it was on my shirt!!!He wanted my face though, then I got him into the snake bag. Gave him his frist doses of flagyl and panacur.
On another note, I fed him a f/t mouse and I think he bit it in half and dropped half of it in his water dish???? Is it normal for them to bite their prey in half or WHAT THE HECK??
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Sweet ATB, Kolleen. Which store was that one bought in? Was it here in the valley? I do most of my ordering online, but I do frequent Mark's Ark for my more basic supply needs. In fact, the GTP I posted on here was picked up at Mark's. By the way, what clinic do you work for? For check-ups and the like, I take my critters over to Dr. Klaphake at the Bird & Exotic Pet Hospital in Fort Union/Midvale. Most vets around here won't even touch arboreals. Let alone most snakes.

On a separate note, isn't it sad about the lack of any truly decent pet stores around here?? Utah really is not a reptile friendly state. Me and a partner are seriously considering opening up our own store that caters mainly to reptiles. But for right now, that plan is in it's infancy. Like Ed said (hey look- i'm a poet and didn't even know it!!! ), should you consider putting that Ammy up for adoption, let me know.
