As some of you may already know, I have been working on a website for the rescues I do. Well, it's not finished, but it's uploaded! There is still ALOT I need to do to it, but I'll do my best to have it in better shape soon. The good thing is that the adoption application is now available from the site. The bad news is that the surrender form is not working for some reason. Doubt I'll get any surrenders from here, but if I do, please copy and paste it to an e-mail and send it directly to BoaBabe@Redtailboa.net Any and all suggestions are appriciated as I have never buit a website before. Anyone with caresheets or goodlinks they would be willing to let me use on the site, please post em here or e-mail me directly. Also, I originally had all the text in black, but then it seemed a little difficult to read, so I changed some of it to green. Tell me, what do you like better? Is anyone having probelms with reading the sections in black? Also, if any of the buttons come up a red x, I know about that. I've been having some real problems with them for some reason, and I'm waiting for customer support help on that one. One last thing, I had a friend from RTB build me a great banner a while back, but when my husband ordered the domain name for me, he mixed up the order of the words in our name. Sooo, to make life easy we changed it from All Reptile Species to All Species Reptile. Well, I can't seem to get ahold of the person who built the banner for me, to fix that. So, if anyone here reads this and is willing to fix this banner for me, please let me know. I still have the old banner if that is of any help. Thanks everyone and I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas. Please jus keep in mind my fragile ego as I spent MANY MANY hours on what you see already...lol I'm not very computer savvy when it comes to building a site...hehe! Ok, here's the link!

Looks good! I filled out the surrender form and sent it to you to see if it worked as per your request via email. I hope it's working for you.

Actually, my husband bought it. He bought the software that builds the site off line, the domain name, and 2 years of hosting. Once I built the site offline, I uploaded it to the domain name. Whenever I need to update the site, I simply upload again. I honestly couldn't tell you much more, that's why we bought the software. The domain name is what you type in the browser window to get to my site. Like if you went and got a free site with geocities your URL would be something like www.geocities.blahblahblaha982.com. With my site we are easy to find because the domain name is the same as the name I gave the site. Do I make any sense?...lol BTW, I'm very impressed with your site!!! Thank you, I'll definately be using some of those caresheets

Thats a good site you got there BB. I would like to have the corn snake you got listed on there BUT i dont like the idea of somebody telling me if im capable of having a reptile . I just go ahead and buy my snakes from other breeders and shows But that is a really cool site and its cool you help reptiles out. Thanks for the compliments on the site. Unfortunately too many ppl out there are not honest about their experience with reptiles, that's why it is important to have the application. I would think everyone would understand that. I wouldn't be TELLING you if you are capable, I would be just clarifing. If for some reason you had to give up your reptiles, wouldn't you like to at least know for sure the person at least had basic knowledge of reptiles? At least to know to feed prekilled or F/T, or not to use hot rocks. I've had people asking for ETB's and GTP's that only had experience with ball pythons or garter snakes. Or those who use hot rocks and feed live in the enclosure. If I never asked, I would have never known. I don't disqualify those people, only let them know what I know, and if they are willing to make the changes to make things safe for the reptile, then they are able to adopt. In fact, I adopted Eddie's burm to a guy who wasn't extremely knowledgable, but he constantly e-mails me for questions and advise, and has had the snake to the vet twice now! He cares and is willing to learn and do what is needed, and that is what matteres to me. Hope you understand what I mean.

Not meaning to sound mean or anything...but did the person you got your ETB from inquire about your experience? As best as I can remember it's what? a year total with reptiles? How exactly do you determine who is qualified for what when your own experience is so void of time spent.
My intentions for this post is not to ridicule or upset a fragile ego....but because I worry about the animals that are being placed into the hands of so many "so called" rescue/rehabbers that have no rehab skills....a sick or injured snake moving from one hand to another is not any better off unless the person can provide proper medical care. Rescue is not something that should be used just for the sole purpose to acquire free pets.

Nice site BB, let's hope it furthers the good works you are already doing!
I agree, you must ensure that people understand the reptile that they adopt. However, when I read the form as if I were adopting a reptile I couldn't help but feeling a little bit insulted by some of the questions. Perhaps, instead of such a "vigorous" application form, it might be better just to speak to the person and get a feel for them. After all, you can write anything on a form, but if somebody is asking you direct questions and you don't have time to look up the answers, you are more likely to get an honest response.
Good luck with the site and your work!

Is it an application to adopt a child or one to adopt a reptile. I know you want the animal to go to a good home but lets be real here. I feel like the next step after filling out the app. is having a background check ran on me. I havent started filling out one nor will I. It will be a lot easier just outright buying what I want from a shop or breeder.

For everyones info, the application there ain't nothin compared to mine nor the Char/Meck animal shelters.
But yes, some of us do feel like they are our kids.
With all the bad press that herps get, along with Government groups doing everything they can to ban reptiles, does it not make sense to ensure the animal is going to not just a good home, but a qualified home?
Be real about your answer, do ya really want a snake with GIANT potential going to some one who has absolutely no experience or to some one that thinks it's ok to let it freee roam the house at all times?
How about an animal that you put several hundred dollars into for treatment, that you adopt out, going to some one that will turn around and trade for or sell it?
For me, if I put my time and effort into the animal, to either save, rehab, house for months to years during a recovery time, or to find a good home, I don't want to see it being sold for near store prices any where or any time. Or to have the animal go some where that it ends up in the same or worse shape than it was when I origonally rescued!
For me to save one, adopt out and find for sale, is a slap in my face.
Why?
Because I put the effort into it,
I put the time in it,
I put my own money in it, money that could have been used for bills but wasn't since the animals life is more important than a late fee.
And last but not least, the fact that I could very well have sold it myself and made money on it, but due to my own standards and ethics, won't.
The applications aren't for our own pride, nor to belittle anyone.
They are there as a step to better the odds that the animal lives with out duress, the adopters can feel that we do care about the animals and where they go and to help prevent statistics that lead to banning herps for good.
Example, I adopt an animal to someone that keeps the animal all its life with no probs because the application did its job and found the best qualified adopter in as many aspects as possible.
Or the opposite- I adopt or sell anything to any one, regardless of their age , experience and their plans to sell or breed the animal.
Age and experience, - too young for a burm or retic or large monitor and the young person is injured or killed by the pet. VERY BAD!!!!
Selling the animal- the same as above, it would go to whoever has the most cash, simple as that. No better than the chain stores.
Breeding- Adding even more animals that have increasing odds of making a statistic, or to wind up dead or in rescue due to neglect, abuse, escapes, releases into the wild, etc. etc. etc.
We don't ask our questions to #$%^$%^$%^$%^& you off.
We do it to further an animals life and to help the hobby in the long run by prevention.
Sorry for the rant, but I didn't see anyone else giving the reasons behind the forms,
just saw b*tching about them....
