Had my first call out for a snake relocation today.
Turned out to be rather undramatic.
The snake was described as a six foot carpet python.
Itried to explain the snake would do more good than
harm being left where it was(in the guys back shed).
However he was adamant that its head would be off
w/ a shovel if it was not removed immedeately.

Turned out to be a three foot spotted python.
Now it is at least a safe spotty.

Not very exiting but my first

LMAO.. When I read your post I was like.. Umm.. There ain't no place in the US that either of these snakes are indigenous. What's this person talking about ? OK..Maybe the snake is a "lost" pet." BUt then there is the relocation factor and I was like.. Relocated where to ? Then I looked at your local hehe... OOPs...

Nice work..now send me the snake.. I been looking for one of them hehe

Ben, just out of curiousity, is it currently illegal to ship reptiles out of australia? I know that there are no outside species coming into the country.

Yes thats the case Morti, It covers all native Aust. fauna.

I'm sure there are avenues for zoo exchange programs etc.
Just not for the average Joe.

There are reptiles coming into the country, illeagally.

Have any of them been released and subsequently become invasive?

There is a reptile that has become invasive here though
not deliberately introduced.
The asian house gecko(Hemidactylus frenatus) has displaced native species
that used to occupy houses on the east coast.
Don't know why I didn't think of it before I can walk around my place
& count 20 at any time on the walls & cielings.

Those things are like earwigs are over here for my relatives (who live in Malaysia.) My mom used to tell me not to play with them, because they could crawl into my ears! I mean, I guess they could, but don't think they'd find my ears too appealing....

Your'e JCP might get to 6ft Wendy
they average 5-7 w/ some getting to 8.

People have a morbid obsession w/ having the
most deadly in their backyards too, (common &
brown tree snakes are harmless but often mis-identified
as taipans !)
Are those geckos native to Malaysia Pincess?,here they get a
bit big to climb into earholes!

Umm Ben ? Think she meant the earwigs climb into the ear canal NOT the geckos hehe. They do actually do that also btw. Once when working er we had a patient come in that had some in his ear canal...ewwww... one or more had gotten in their and left some eggs/babies behind and then that's when the guy wound up in er for it.. YUCK !
