I got back a couple hours ago from picking up a couple of BCI rescues/adoptions. I had actually adopted a female 8' BCI and the owner also had told me about another bci she has , a male that has health problem going on. We just hadn't linked up till now for me to get the female from her. That was a month ago actually when i first spoke with her. She had just taken the male to a vet Whom stated that he has experience with exotics such as snakes. YEAH RIGHT! about 3 weeks prior to that time. The snake had mouthrot/stomatitis and an RI and hadn't eaten in like 2 months time at that point. The vet cleaned the mouth and gave anitbiotics..OH YEAH he also gave her a nice $175 vet bill also. He never told her to clean the snake's mouth from the mouthrot at all. When I talked to her she was telling me how bad the snake was doing and she didn't think he would even last the nite. I went over with her on what the vet had not told her in regards to cleaning the snake's mouth out daily .
I received an email from her last friday in regards to picking up the female this week. Then today i received an email asking if I could also take the male , now in worse condition but still hanging in there.
I went to pick em up tonite.. The female is perfect the male on the other hand... OMG !
He has definate stomatitis/mouthrot, severely underweight and also severely dehydrated, dysecdysis, retained eye caps top go with it too, non feeding for 3 months now, blocked nostrils , think that's it UGH. On the upside though he is not lethargic at all and is even realy spunky for a snake in his shape. He also does not have any signs of any type of neuro problems or mites either. he's a sweetheart also. Has not complained at all with what I have already done with him at this point even.
My reptile vet is on vaca atm arghh.. I will definately be looking around for a vet that knows snakes to take him to asap as I do know I will need meds for him [ more than i got on hand anyway]
these are some pics of him... His name is JAKE...
The rest of the pics are here .

That poor, poor baby. God love him, he's so pathetic. I know you can help him!
hehehe, his name reminds me of one of the very few country and western songs I like, 'If I die before I wake, feed Jake' lol or whatever the song's called

yeah he is pathetic looking to say the least. Hopefully we will be able to turn him around though none the less. We've been working on his dehydration , if we can get him at least comparably rehydrated ..it will make a world of difference for him.

More tragic and gut wrenching photos of rescues. I hope he pulls through for you. He is definitely in better hands now. Good luck! Always shocks me when I see such badly cared for reptiles. It's not like that with this case at all. The woman who owned this snake tried her best and also got very bad advice from a vet who claimed to know the proper care on reptiles/snakes too. Only thing he knew how to do was line his pocket with her cash. The owner has been beside herself on the status of this snake's health since the first time I talked with her. She sought medical help from a supposed qualified vet also for it. money was not an object for this person either. When I picked up the 2 snakes from her, there was no doubt in my mind that this woman hadn't tried to go to the ends of the earth for this snake. She had done everything I had suggested to try and do in order to help this snake out since I talked to her last week and found out he was actually still alive at this point. She has cried many tears over this snake, both in and out of my presence. This snake was like a child to her, you just couldn't miss that in the way she held him or talked with him at all. I adopted her other snake from her, that's how I got involved with this one in the first place. She put the female up for adoption because she couldn't stand the thought that if that snake should ever need medical attention , she would not be able to provide proper treatment with a qualified vet..just like has happened here with Jake. She has tried to find a different vet for the snake but could not find one that knows snakes and what to do for what is wrong with the snake at all. She doesn't live near here at all and I also know that there are not reptile vets that know their stuff where she is located also.
I have visited many a home to take possession of a reptile that has health issues, most are usually from blatant neglect. This case is NOT like that at all I'll grab pics of ANGEL, the female BCI I also adopted from her too. She has not a single health issue going for her. Husbandry that I saw was right on target in both of these snakes cages.

He isn't gonna be able to eat on his own for sometime Lori. Once ya get him hydrated...I would consider tube feeding him a nice liquid diet for a couple of months.

Yeah Jul's Kinda was figuring such. His lower jaw is not too great atm..I have cleaned out a ton of necrotic tissue from that area and looks like the jaw bone has been majorly affected also..arghh. I've been downing fluid in him via tubing so far...gonna wait a bit to get him more hydrated before anything further than water atm.

thicken a lil ensure with a teaspoon of plain yogurt...add some chicken baby food and maybe some raw egg...you will notice after a day or two some massive swelling around the vent...as this stuff seems to go right through em. but...they do get alot of the nutrients out of the mix...it just has so much fluid that it digest really fast. so Be prepared to soak him and massage his tail area a bit to help him poop. You will also note after 2 or 3 feedings that he is putting on alot of weight. this mix is packed full of vitamins and really brings a poor snake back up to speed fast. Improving his malnourishment problem will greatly improve his stomititis recovery as well.

Hmm..Didn't want to stress him out any further then he obviously is atm. Ya don't think I would if I went and did this at all then ? I keep tossing it back and forth on whether to "feed" or hold off...
