Back in february we took in a CARPET PYTHON in rescue here. The snake had a severe area of basically an open wound that ran down about 9" of it's back side. There were about 5 layers of retained shed on the snake which took 2 people about 1 1/2 hours to "peel" off of him. The snake was severely underweight and also a non feeder. This snake was also just about on death's doorstep when we got him also.
There has been a lot of work done with him to this point. He is now eating for us np and is quite "spirited" also when out of the cage. He is constantly on the move outside of the cage but can be handled np by most people here. YES , Pammy handles this lil guy without any problems at all even. He's one of her fave's to play with. Last nite he also shed in one piece for the first time since we had gotten him. All the other times the sheds were in 100's of pieces and we had to manually remove the shed from him ourselves...arghhh. This time he not only shed in one piece BUT also ALL by hisself too ..YEAH!!
You can see in this pic the area that was basicaly an open wound when he first came in here to us . The area is now healed up and there is a small amount of scar tissue existing at this point.
About as close as I could get for a head shot. he no longer sits still for long when out of the cage for us hehe.
This is basically his full body shot now that I could grab with him not sitting still for pics.

That's awesome, Lori. You're doing a great job w/ him! He has made a great turnaround. When I saw the first pics, I thought it was a 50/50 chance that he may not make it. Seems to be doing great now. How do you like them carpets?

Good job!
Travis, the wound was caused by the multiple layers of retained shed. It literally ripped his good skin open.
Here's a before pic from Loris Loris Carpet album.

I have seen alot of sweet ones. I have also seen alot of nasty ones. Most can be handled regardless of temperment without incident though...swoop em up like you do amazons and tease them with the free hand just out of strike range if they start looking at our face funny. Most of the semi-nippy ones are also only nippy when being reached for and are fairly docile once out. My really sweet Irian Jaya bit me the other day when I was reaching in her cage. I didn't notice that she was going into shed and I do feed her in her cage as I do all of my arboreals. So I don't blame her. She didn't mean anything by it.

Weve got a couple of Carpets that are absolutely dog-tame. They are adult though, but they are amongst the tamest snakes we have! Beautiful, I'm a huge fan of Carpets, love 'em.

Lori glad your carpet is doing so well. He was really bad! I think you are amazing. I have a turtle that was near death that i saved and rehabilitated! I am glad you cared to help him and you saved him! That wound healed up really well. To bad it left such a bad scar! But hes still a pretty snake. You should get another one I like carpets and plan to get a Jungle in the future one day!
