Well, he died.
http://redtailboa.net/index.php?name...086&highlight=
I cannot begin to explain the pain, made doubly hard by the fact that firstly, he didn't look that bad. He was simply a bruised snake that needed time, warmth and care to help him heal and be well enough to be released.
But you add the human element to his pain and that makes my pain so hard to bear.
This was a magnficent boy, a huge wild snake that through his own wild instincts and a lot of luck, manged to survive to such a big size in suburbia.
And then he met a man. For some stupid reason he got too close, allowed this man to get too close and for this brief moment of surprise or stupidity, man, the planets most callous, cruel, heartless beast on it, got the chance to make this snakes life worthless. With the simple use of a broom, this snakes life was to be over.
But oh, not fast, no. The damage done to this snake got to sit there and fester. So what looked to be a snake with a chance to heal, and learn a lesson about keeping away from man, turned out to be a snake that died a slow painful death.
I wish I could have known.
I wish I could have put him out of his misery, before it got so great that he had to die from it.
I wish he could have known, that I shared his pain with him, that I sit at the keyboard and cry as I write this.
I wish he was well enough not to care.

I'm so sorry to hear that Wrasse. Peoples ignorance is pervasive, and many times we all suffer for it. Keep in mind it's people like you that help make the world a good place to live. You gave him a fighting chance, so good job.

Ouchy..
While the wounds looked to be superficial, there is just no telling how much internal damage was done...
Sad, but it unfortunately happens.

Thanks everyone. I took him out tonight, to a quiet bush spot and arranged him neatly, covered him with leaves. He looks to be basking. Best that can be done now.
I know, when you do rescues, that you are going to lose some. After years of rehabbing animals, I thought I was hardened to it. This one just really got to me.
