Reptile Fest..... Lets Plan Now!!!

Ok Everyone. Time for all the Mid-westerners to come together and show the Georgia contingent that We love them herp every bit as much if not more than they do. Of course the Georgia contingent is always welcome up in Yankee territory.
Reptile fest is coming up April 5-6. It's a great show that The Chicago Herp Society puts on every year. This is not a live animal sale show (although Saturday the 5th there is one about 45 minutes away) Reptile Fest
Im already set to have a good amount of my animals there. Also my buddy Rich (pogona31) Will have a large amount of animals there(gonna try to talk him into bringing his new Angolan Python)
Always a large display of native Illinois and Mid-west herps, no venemous though [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif[/img]

All Procedes to the show go directly towards conservation efforts!!!
CHS is highly involved with the Eastern Massasauga project at Carlyle Lake, IL. This is pretty much the LAST stronghold for this species in IL.
Also highly involved with preventing the extiction of an Iguana species I believe the ssp is utilla? spelling unsure.

There is a HUGE wealth of information there. Definately not a boring show, lots of kids activities, and informative seminars.
CHS is one of the largest most repected herp societies in the world.

So Come on out start making your plans now.

Just a second note. Another project CHS just completed before Christmas. We relocate 56 yes I said 56 Alligators and caimen to the St Augustine Alligator Sanctuary. This not only called for driving down a load of gators. But Blood work had to be done on EACH animal. Also mind you these were ALL rescue and confiscated animals, that were provided care for until they could be found an apropriate home. One of our members Bob B. kept the majority of them At his HOME, and cared for them, and made arrangements to have them transported to FL.
Mind you ALL of these animals could have been put down. Granted this was not cheap. just a note to how dedicated CHS is to conservation of Herps.

Sounds like fun! And hopefully I'll be living in DeKalb by then, so I'll be even closer! I'll plan on coming, unless something odd happens. I'm thinking about joining CHS after I get moved, so maybe I'll even participate!

Here I have been playing a kingsnake and haven't posted for a while and Ed is talking bad about me again [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif[/img]

I am bringing the Angolan and many more. Balls, boas, beardeds, monitors, tortoises, Borneos, and whatever else I am in the mood for... Should be fun. I printed the species labels and we are at 290 different species and most will be there that weekend!

A whole weekend of nothing but herps!

For now, I will definitely plan on at least attending, and I'll be sure to bring my camera. Might even bring the video camera if I remember. Hopefully we'll be getting moved soon, as we got a BIG tax return, and we're going to look at a place to put the house on Tuesday. Wish us luck!

ARGH! I don't get to go! My husband's vacation starts that weekend, to all that week we'll be packing and moving. Nice to finally get back into my own house, but of course it would have to be the weekend I really wanted to spend in Chicago! It figures, I didn't get to go to Tinley Park either, because we were moving into my parent's house that weekend. Oh, well, from now on I'll be close enough that I'm going to join CHS, and next year I'll definitely be there!

I'll be at Reptile Fest at least one of the days. I live a couple miles away from the place that they have the Streamwood swap meet/show/mudbog. Getting out of the parking lot (muddy field) was a lot fun last time. Hyundai Accents with bald front tires don't do well in mud or on wet asphalt either.
