Craaazy story
so i was at the hamburg show today getting a few things for my new vivarium set up (2 green snakes, big-eyed tree frog, Red-eye tree frog)... and i was walking out to my truck when i see a pillow case on the ground in the grass not in the path of any people... i knew it was obviously left over from a buy but it was tied up so i figured i would go check it out. I picked it up and it had something in it but i figured it was dead from the hot sun cooking it... i opened the bag without hesitation (probably not the best move but i lucked out) there were three northern water snakes alive inside! each probably about 4 feet long! i have to check them out in the morning and see if they are wild caught.. if so i can let them go in the lake i live on.. plenty of water snakes to hang out with there. If not i guess i'll just add to my collection!

Re: Craaazy story
Not a good idea to let loose captive animals from unknown origins into a habitat with an established population of snakes. They could introduce a foreign pathogen that would wipe out every snake in the area. Especially at a herp show, you never know what nasties are bouncing from python to boa to cobra to water snake. Unfortunately, I would say that those need to be captive animals for the duration of their lives.

Re: Craaazy story

Re: Craaazy story
You may have inadvertently destroyed a plot by an AR group. Maybe someone was supposed to "happen upon the deadly snakes" and "Venomous snakes escape "hot" show" was supposed to be the headline in the morning.
Way to foil the plot, BATMAN!!!!

that's actually been a not-so-rare occurrence lately. planting "escaped" exotics when legislation concerning exotics just happens to be up for review, etc.
really sick stuff.
