Science: 1st thyroid treatment in reptiles!

At least documented, a girl had a very sick beardie and I was doing resarch for her, we suspected it was thyroid but sorry to say the poor thing past away last night before she could get it back to the vet again for a thyroid test. However, I figured it would be interesting to post here since it's such a new thing, and I suspect more reptiles have it out there than we know, and knowledge is power.

I love the picture of him going into the CT scanner! It's so cute with his four little paws straight up in the air.

Ailing reptile is a medical rarity - SignOnSanDiego.com

and basically thyroid in this case, hypercalcimia, is NOT MBD, but shows as the same. However, the animal will not improve with extra calcium nor CC. It will only substain the animal for another two weeks, the animal usually still has seizures and after that the animal dies. When the body expires and is too tired. It is related to an underactive or overactive parathyroid.

and the calcium levels in the blood will be very low. I think it was in hypo, the animal will shed almost constantly, have troubles with the shedding and be very tired, but I am not fully sure of the rest, I would probably suspect an abnormal lvl of the calcium in the blood though since that is the opposite of hyper and that is usually caused by a tumor on the parathyroid gland so it overproduces the hormone.
