".....gave some away and ate two others..." if this report is true, this poor man is mentally whacked.

Trouble is, this sort of thing can make it hard for responsible reptile keepers to keep having or breeding their animals, what with all the anti-exotics legislation and bans going on now.

Re: Clueless doesn't count...

Disregard for legal protection sure goes on here too! I was at a snake lecture recently, and when the presenter mentioned that it's illegal here in Arkansas to kill snakes (unless you are immediately threatened) there was an audible gasp in the audience....few seemed aware of this?
Add to that the machismo thing of "I ate a rattlesnake!"....??? And let's face it, even those caught are often just warned, and they know it!

Re: Clueless doesn't count...

Animal laws here have no teeth either. People do all kinds of animal cruelty because they can get away with it and if they are caught and tried (a miracle) they are lightly let off with a "slap on the wrist".

Man "having dominion" over all the other animals as it says in the Bible, seems to give humans the right to treat them any way they wish, and this argument is often used by people here who quote the Bible as their justification for cruel acts against animals. Very sad.

Any Jamaican boa (endangered) that is seen by anyone here has very little chance of living.

.....
You just hit on my FAVORITE misuse of the bible!
People go to great lengths to justify their nasty deeds, and are totally adept at self-deception as well!

Re: Clueless doesn't count...

That is debatable!!! (PETA and all that....) But not here.

I don't consider eating meat as cruelty to animals, although who knows but that that animal may have been tortured instead of being humanely...but no, NOT discussing that here.

I think we can agree having "dominion" does not mean we can deliberately hurt/torture them. I think it means that we are responsible for their survival (but NOT nasty rats and roaches...LOL!!!)
