Thanks (me, I think)...I have known some major breeders who many years ago were first out of the starting gate & made lots of money with their snakes! But by the time many buy the offspring, their supply has increased exponentially and both the prices and the demand/available homes fall! There seems to be very few members on here who DON'T want to breed their snakes, even when they have a hundred or so, yet claim to 'love them'? My question therefore, is THIS the future you want for them? -being shot in a swamp? (ranting is contagious...but the enthusiasm generated here among like-minded folks also needs a reality check, IMO!)

Yeah there are more invasive species I watched it like yesterday at four in the morning but the thing is that the burms are eating some endangered species but I don't agree with them neither but hay I'm not in charge lol and also they should be tryin to get rid of that gambian pouch rat they fight back and spread diseases and have 30 pups a year.

Re: Python Hunting Season set for South Florida
Well, if I can come into this from across the sea in Jamaica sitting under my coconut tree, this is what I would say.
I don't agree with the "open season" for anyone at all to just go haring off into the bush and shoot the reptiles. Lots of "innocent" species including native species will be killed, and there will be lots of unnecessary suffering of the animals that are shot once, then again, then again to "make sure" it's dead. I can just picture it.
This thing should be done with officials who know what they are looking for, and the officials would be in charge of groups of no less than, say, 8 or ten hunters, who would have their permits, etc. and their licences and obey all the rules of the hunt for that day, be made aware before starting of what they are supposed to be hunting, and at the end of the hunt the group would meet and the "kill" would be tallied and any person who shot an "innocent" animal would not be permitted to hunt in this context again for the "season".
Since it's being done that's how I would rather it happen.

Re: Python Hunting Season set for South Florida
I'm happy to have them all hunted down and killed.
Hopefully then they won't try to restrict us from keeping them.

Somehow I don't want this to be the "last word" on this thread.
I should think that if they are all hunted down and killed in the Everglades, then the next logical move would be to hunt down and kill those in captivity too - all over the USA.

That actually faulty logic.
They are not feral in captivity, nor are they a threat to wildlife.

Re: Python Hunting Season set for South Florida
Morti, maybe I should have put "logical" in quotation marks.
It is not my idea of llogical, but what I think may be the politician's idea of it.
A politician's "logic" can be a dangerous thing and he, unfortunately, often has the power and resources to inflict it as far as he can. Once on a "roll", he will take his victory to the limit and beyond if possible. This happens to a ridiculous extent here in Jamaica and causes much unnecessary suffering and loss.
I mean, suppose the ones in the Everglades are "hunted down and killed", then he would come up with the next "logical" step - find out who is keeping them in captivity, attack the pet shops, breeders, etc. and go from there with whatever punitive measures they can bring to bear.

Re: Python Hunting Season set for South Florida
But what do you propose that we do about the burms in the everglades if you don't think they should be hunted? We've been over this before.

Re: Python Hunting Season set for South Florida
I have seen enough to realize that the burms are definitely a problem in the Everglades as far as the indigenous species being depleted is concerned. I believe that they should be controlled as far and as humanely as possible. But I do not believe that the pet trade all over the States, should be attacked and punished because of this isolated problem.
