Ugh...
This is absolutely terrible... This could've been easily avoided. That little girl didn't have to die like this. I hate people so much...
Also, I'd like to add that 12 snake fatalities in nearly 30 years is NOTHING compared to the 332 deaths by dogs from 1979 to 1998. The entire country still adores those slobbering mutts (no offence to dog lovers).

Well, in that case, good on you  I promote and admire the fight against ignorance toward snakes. My retic did a great job turning some scared neighbors into decent supporters tonight, and honestly, I believe it's a person-by-person battle to win the hearts of the public when it comes to ignorance about serpents.

chance has really changed a lot of minds. people who were so scared of snakes they couldn't even watch them on TV. my mom being one. by the time i left MI my mom was calling herself 'grandma' to chance. lol. my mom feared snakes for 80 some years prior to chance.

i take 4 of my snakes to work with me, and all of them are great at changing minds, especially my reticulated python, Maya. People are put off at first by her cause of her species (if they actually know what they are) but once they see how sweet she is they change their minds and they love her  the other 3 i take with me are lavona (my BIG female, boy do people love her ), satyr, and toki, all boas. toki is a huge hit with the public too cause hes so curious and likes to crawl around on people

That's funny, because I know exactly what you mean  Tonight, I was shocked because some neighbor kid came along when everyone else was gawking and loving on Ryuu, and he actually asked:
"Dude, that's a reticulated python, do you know how big and bad that snake is gonna get?" And I was happy he said that!
Gave me the perfect opportunity to demonstrate and discuss the responsible way folks can deal with and enjoy these magnificent animals...The less moronic ignorance there is when it comes to these creatures, the better we can keep our rights to responsibly enjoy and enrich our lives living and learning with them.
