Woman fined for housing 8-foot-long boa constrictor

I don't see any excuse for her actions, since she was fined for the same offense in 2005. If laws prevent you from having the pets you want, you should just move somewhere else.

Re: Woman fined for housing 8-foot-long boa constrictor

she should look into the state laws. a man in florida fought his city's "venomous ban" because the state has specific provisions for owning venomous snakes. He argued the city's ban was unconstitutional and won. They had to repeal their ban. If her state has provisions for constrictors, she may be able to overturn the cities ban. I'll find that article about the guy in Florida and post it.

Re: Woman fined for housing 8-foot-long boa constrictor

I think the cite is somewhere around here. Cities are in fact allowed to make laws that are more restrictive, but not less restrictive, than state law.

Re: Woman fined for housing 8-foot-long boa constrictor

*shakes finger* why can't people just follow the rules? This was her second offense for the exact same thing.

However, did you guys read the comments on the story? "Wasted tax dollars" and "of course they go for someone with exotic animals right away...but drug dealers etc walk around willy-nilly".

Just goes to show you how the government 'prioritizes' on situations like this.

Re: Woman fined for housing 8-foot-long boa constrictor

Things may not always be what they seem.

Some of you may recall the headline "Kentucky man Jailed for selling reptiles without a permit" down in Florida. Others may remember "Michigan Woman ordered to get rid of her snakes".

The specific incidents that I have in mind here didn't actually make the news, but they very easly could have, and here y'all would be... talking about how stupid the person was without any actual knowledge of the situation.

Deltona, FL. The snakes were permitted by the state, the city cannot infringe on that right.

Another article.

Deltona Officials Say Man Can Keep 50 Venomous Snakes - Orlando News Story - WESH Orlando

Alot of states don't have specific rules or permitting though, so that would allow a city to impose a restriction. Florida is very specific about what you can have.

NEWARK -- A 31-year-old Newark woman was detained overnight Monday at the Licking County Justice Center after housing a snake larger than the city allows.

i just cant get my head around this, fair enough laws are laws and are normally there for a good reason, but this just sounds silly.

from a totall outside point of view, how can a city that resides within a country that allows firearms put a limit on the size of a pet, when theres more danerous pets (such as some breeds of dog) allowed ?
