JACKSONVILLE - Reptile Amnesty Day 11/22/2008

If you are near Jacksonville, FL here is your chance to get rid of unwanted (non-native) reptiles with no penalty. FYI, I will be there with the Jacksonville Herpetological Society helping out.

November 22, 2008
Jacksonville Zoo, Jacksonville, FL
10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
People can surrender exotic pets that they can no longer care for, free of charge with no questions asked, at this one-day-only event.
All surrendered pets will be examined by a licensed veterinarian and if they appear healthy, we will try to place them with willing, qualified adopters.
Exotic reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish and mammals will be accepted; domestic pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets) will not be accepted.
Amnesty Day is a free event and open to the public. Educational exhibits and live animals will be on display and experts will be on hand to answer questions about exotic animals. Come and learn about being a responsible nonnative pet owner!

Better that than setting them free. Much of Florida is habitable for exotic reptiles.

Yeah, this is an effort to prevent them setting them loose, which is a big problem. It's really a win,win,win. The person gets rid of reptile that they no longer take care of, the FWC doesn't have to deal with it in the wild later, and possibly a new owner gets a free snake.

Doubt there'll be any morphs but i bet lots of normal balls, rtbs and burms. Also last chance to dump the (now illegal) red-eared sliders without a fine.

	Morph A morph is a color or pattern variation that is proven to be genetic. Common morphs include albino, anerythristic, gentically striped, Hypomelanistic, and many others. Morphs also include combinations of simple traits such as "Sunglow" which is Albino and Hypomelanistic. These traits may be recessive traits, co-dominant traits, dominant traits, or created through selective breeding (ie Pastel).

It really gets frustrating when I have to turn down AWESOME opportunities like this because of my GF and Roomate! I could probably walk away with a free RTB and a Dumeril's boa that day! :eviltong :

Ha you'd be surprised! If I wasn't working that day I'd go check it out. Maybe I'll send out a couple scouts just to look (as if I need anymore pets...)
