Rare Reptiles' Mass Die-Off Due to Poison-Induced Gout
This is a sad story at face value, but even more so if you realize this kind of thing can happen to many other animals. Sometimes entire habitats or river systems can be badly damaged by an isolated event.

Re: Rare Reptiles' Mass Die-Off Due to Poison-Induced Gout
That's so awful....
I love those boogers. I first saw them on an episode of Croc Hunter. They're totally my kind of critter, that long and elegant nose and unpleasant disposition.
I wonder what it is exactly that's doing it...?

Re: Rare Reptiles' Mass Die-Off Due to Poison-Induced Gout
people are doing it.
the nasty junk they dump into the water is building up in the food chain.
its probably not just the gharials that will have problems.
im sure the turtles, birds of prey, snakes, large predatory fish, EVERYTHING that counts on that water being clean will be affected.

Re: Rare Reptiles' Mass Die-Off Due to Poison-Induced Gout
Well, yes. I was wondering if it was just one specific thing, or just the plethora of crap that gets dumped in the water year round.

Re: Rare Reptiles' Mass Die-Off Due to Poison-Induced Gout
I am so glad they finally figured out the cause. I have been catching news of the deaths for a while, but no conclusions were drawn. Hopefully they can do something now.
