Man arrested for "Walking" Python.
Man charged for 'walking' python - CNN.com
Quote:
MASTIC, New York (AP) -- A U.S. man was arrested Tuesday for walking on a highway with a 14-foot python wrapped around his body, police said.
Police in Long Island's Suffolk County say 35-year-old Curtis Dewberry of Wading River was spotted by an officer for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals while out strolling Tuesday afternoon.
The officer called police because the python is considered a danger to the public.
Dewberry has been charged with animal cruelty and failure to protect the public against dangerous wildlife.
He was being held Tuesday and didn't have a lawyer. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend

Re: Man arrested for "Walking" Python.
Danger to the public? that's disgusting. because you know, your average dog isnt as capable of taking down a person right? your average bloke behind the wheel of his mustang never hurt anyone right? Smoking cigarettes isn't dangerous either i suppose. but oh, a snake, since it's depicted in the bible as the deciever and because of movies like snakes on a train, oh they are dangerous. Oh, and because a few dumb owners tricked their snakes into thinking they were food. You know, the few that we hear the media sensationalize. Despite the larger number of people that die a year from automobile accidents. Looks like i have to liquidate my collection.
and taking your 14 foot burm/retic/afrock/what have you. out on a winter day is also stupid.
Sorry, had to rant.

Re: Man arrested for "Walking" Python.
i understand the whole "it's cold thing" being cruel, but if it was during summer ??? what then? I dont think that's cruel.
and do you really think a guy's just going to strut around with a really mean snake wrapped around him that could strike at anyone he walks past, therefore endangering the public?
even then, It's no different than walking an agressive dog down the street, people should be smart enough to stay away and if they dont and come and stick their hand in it's face, they deserve it! would police arrest a man walking a large dog? no.

Re: Man arrested for "Walking" Python.
Although, I think it's a bit much for the officer to actually arrest the man, I do think that it is your responsibility as a snake owner to keep them in your house/yard because, not only could something bad happen to the snake, but so many other people are horrified them. From being on RTB, I like to think that all reptile owners have a functioning brain and don't use their reptiles to show off or scare people, but I think have been proven wrong yet again.

I don't think that's very nice. Not all large dogs are agressive. I, personally, have had much more problems with the little ones, as opposed to Pit Bulls and Rottweilers. In a way, though, you're right. BUT, like I said about snake owners, when you own any animal that could pose a threat to the public, it is your responsibility to contain the animal, be it snake or dog.
