Re: Prejudices' ugly head
A little update. I e-mailed Jim Nesci since he may have something to say about reptiles as companions. I also e-mailed a reptile enthusiast at the department of natural resources and wild life. Then I e-mailed a huge wild life rescue I visit and a fellow Chicago herp member who plays important roles in seizing animals from unfit keepers. I also posted it on the Chicago herpetological forum, and was recommended to bring it up in a meeting.
Hopefully one of them will give me some great advice.

Re: Prejudices' ugly head
It is amazing how people are becoming. I am not into the whole animal rights thing that lifts them to the same level as humans, but I think we are responsible for their care and well being. I said that to say this...no matter who hard or cruel you want to call nature and the whole circle of life thing, it is amazing that (as far as I know) man is the only creature that kills out of revenge and hurting another person. Husband/boyfriend wants to teach woman a lesson, kill her kids. You want revenge on the neighbor, kill his dog. AS far as I know, you don't see that in the animal kingdom, they may kill out of protection, eating, instinct, but you don't see mr. rat getting ticked off at mrs. rat so he goes over and kills the kids in front of her to make her feel bad.
Anyone stop and realize how horrible that makes humans sound? This woman is nuts. Of course with his choking her, shows he aint that far behind the wagon. I am sure in her mind she was just getting back at him, but stabbing the dragons? You know, I almost could see someone in that situation acting out and doing whatever they could to hurt the other person because they might have felt powerless any other way, but after you did the first stab, wouldn't something set in that says, "oh my goodness, what have I done?" How could she continue on with the attack? I don't know, guess I am rambling, just really disappoints me to see how humanity who has the abilities we do, just acting like "animals." Well, not even as decent as animals.

Re: Prejudices' ugly head
holy crap that woman should absolutely be punished!!!!!
I agree with KristinaRogers though, this woman has some serious issues and needs some help as well as to face the severe consequences. an act like seems pretty sociopathic, even if the husband was hurting her, why didnt she hurt him, not the animals?

Remember not everyone loves these animals as much as we do! As sad as it is there are plenty of people out there who could kill a reptile and not blink an eye at it.

Re: Prejudices' ugly head
I agree 100%. One good example is the laws that are not as good at protecting reptiles as they are at protecting dogs or cats.
