Don't let this happen to you.
Beautiful Nile monitor dropped of at animal cruelty shelter because it was "too hard to handle".

Re: Don't let this happen to you.
Idiots. It's a Nile monitor. What did they think it would be like as it grew?
Everyone knows Niles are big, powerful, agressive monitors.
People need to stop buying them as babies and then dump them when they do what Niles do.

Re: Don't let this happen to you.
seriously, you should have to be 21 to buy reptiles....and go thru a screening process too. I used to work at a HUGE pet store "That Fish Place" the largest pet store in America, and i worked in the Reptile Room. Some people would come buy animals and some you can tell dont know what they're doing. I was there last night getting some stuff for my boas and talked to a guy who said oh its for my alligator, i said you mean caiman? he says oh i dunno what it is...What the heck do you mean you dont know???? If you dont know what you have i garauntee the conditions arent correct. He was also buying a medium rat for a 4" thick red tail.....i was upset

Re: Don't let this happen to you.
Hey Scink, just to let you know that censoring out the words with asterixes still counts as a violation, as it's obvious what the word still is. *knows from experience with this* Just as a warning.
Now, regarding this.. it's ridiculous, I absolutely hate how people buy something that's tiny and cute, and then give it up when it gets "too much to handle." It's the same when someone buys a St.Bernard puppy, or a Great Dane, and the dog becomes gigantic, and next thing you know it's in a shelter because the owners got tired of it.
It seriously angers me, as most of this is from people decideing to buy something for show, because it's "cool" to watch it tear apart a mouse, make a huge show out of it and they don't grow any form of sentimental attatchment to it. It's just a thing they can turn into a circus act...
I can understand if they had to move away and there was no way they could bring the animal with them, due to not being able to find a home that allowed it, or any one of the dozens of other issues pet owners seem to find with stuff like that, but just dumping it off because they weren't ready for the responsibility is retarded.

Re: Don't let this happen to you.
I know... we're all angry... but let's don't say things that we may regret later.
I will personally regret you saying them because that makes me hit the infraction button.

Re: Don't let this happen to you.
I am glad everyone is appalled by this story. If Rachel and I had a bigger apartment or a house we would have taken little Andy in. If anyone is interested in this Ornate monitor I may be able to get a hold of him for you.
