Sorry, I'm not trying to get everyone riled up. I just did a search to see some more pics of Albino Burmese Pythons and this came up. I am so steaming mad. I don't know if you guys noticed, but the link that Ladydragon gave on her post in this thread to another forum that has the comments of the owner of Popcorn, in that link he says that he got a phone call a while later that goes pretty much like parent makes call, gets the owner on the line, tells him to hold and then makes his son say he is sorry. Read it, it is quite interesting. I feel so sorry for the animal. I seriously almost cried when I read about the snake convulsing. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't think you are the only one who did ignorant, cruel things as a child. I (Tarzan's wife Jane, living with him - my brother - in my childhood jungle) used to fry/boil the lizards my brother would catch, kill and "bring home for supper". I resented being made to be the "woman" and have to stay home and wash and clean and cook for Tarzan....also I became sorry for the lizards and began instead to sneak out of the "house" when Tarzan left on his hunting trips, and dash around the yard (a large yard we had, with bush and trees galore) chasing away into hiding all the lizards I could see before Tarzan could get them (of course they were not lizards - they were crocodiles or lions). When my sneaky acts of defiance were discovered, Tarzan got his assistant (my other brother), and I was caught, thrown down in mud and was thoroughly slapped and muddied until I cried. Of course I told my parents, my brothers were punished (my father had a collection of belts in his clothes closet) and I was once more beaten by them for telling.

I also killed a few birds with stones, but I never did manage to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, as I have heard some have done.

Kids do bad things. I am sure that we have more than made up in our adult lives, Star, for anything bad we did as kids to any animals.

Poor Popcorn.

This story broke my heart when I read it. I bring my own animals to lecture in schools, and this would be the fruition of my worst nightmare.

The child himself is probably just mimicing what he's seen his parents do, or acting out what he's heard them talk about wanting to do. I think the child needs to be punished enough to understand what he's done, but his sire ought to be the one to fall victim to what everyones furious posts expressed. He should at least have taken responcibility with Popcorns owner for what his son did.

The other thing that hurts about this story is looking what other children have lost as a result. Understandably, Popcorns poor owner won't put any of his live snakes at risk. I hear he uses a skin. We all know that using a skin just isn't the same as experiancing the live animal. Other students will miss out on this experiance for who knows how long because of one stupid child and his heartless parents.

I totally agree. I also have taken some of mine into elementary classrooms before and I can't imagine a child doing such evil. I know it exists, but man!! The owner, Scott, did say that good has come through this because of all the publicity he has been able to get the educational message out through radio and print. Still it is a high price to pay.

that is tragically disturbing, that we as humans are so quick to end life, we as humans take advantage of everything we have, we waste millions of pounds of food a day in America, we don't even appreciate the concept of turning on a light switch and having light, and now we end lives of innocent woman, children, men, and animals as if life is something we can just choose to extinguish at any time. what kind of world are we living in when a young boy chooses to stomp on beautiful snakes head at a show, without remorse, without consequences, without guilt. what does this say for the future of this young boy, the paths that he will take down the journey of his life, i hope at some point something doesn't tragically end his life yet karma can be unfair but just in punishment. what a sad sad story.

we live in a world where people inflict pain upon people and animals and bystanders just watch, everyones to afraid to step up, someone should have grabbed that boy and father and they should have been arrested. that boy should be facing jail time for animal cruelty.
