Rodents are widely accepted feeding animals dogs are not. My guess on why it is illegal is that some animals are allowed to be killed and others are not. Humans put the law on it as we see fit. Just like you can shoot a deer. But shoot your neighbors dog and your in trouble. Bottom line if you ask me this guy does not deserve to live to in the same world as normal compassionate human beings. I feel bad every time i have to kill a rat to feed to my snake. That is why I buy them already dead seems better to me that way. Although it is the same it does not feel as bad to me. Yeah I know im a little weird.

I don't like it either, and I would never do it. That doesn't make it illegal though just because it bothers me or someone else. This just fails the logic test for me, and I don't even think dogs have special protection. I just think they can pull the "animal cruelty" card whenever they want to. It's that selective application of the law that bothers me.

As for "some animals are allowed to be killed and others are not", animal shelters sure kill a lot of them.

I'm not trying to be argumentative. I just want this to make sense to me.

I think it goes against a societal norm to eat a dog or cat, or feed it to your snake in America. People break norms and eventually establish new ones all the time. It's one of the liberties this country was founded upon. I think if it really bothers people, they need to establish a local ordinance or a law to specifically ban the offensive practice (like public nudity or loud music for example).

hence the problem with our laws. I see a big loop hole here. I 2 would like to see a list of animals that are acceptable to kill and the ones that are not. Id almost put money on it that one does not exist. Animal shelters at least humanely put down there dogs not let them suffer by means of snake squeezing them to death.

see, this is why we should bring back the punishments of the middle ages and roman times... public stoning, public whipping (cat of nine tails), etc.

people just don't fear the prison system today (well, paris hilton might be the exception) but anyway... give people a reason to fear getting caught. yea, a bunch of people will call it 'inhumane' or a 'human rights violation', but what about the actions that the person took (i'm also including other willful crimes that violently infringe or violate the rights of others)? they made the decision, knowing the consequences if they were caught, so tough beans, they pay the penalty.

I don't agree with feeding a puppy to a snake. But then I like dogs. It is all relative really........what folks consider to be a 'disposable' animal............Its a matter of opinion. It's kind of funny to hear everyone get all worked up about a dog, but rats, mice, rabbits, etc are generally accepted as okay. Just interesting.........
