Re: Croc takes vet hand.
I will tell you from hands on experience a 5 foot water monitor who vomits at the site of people is no easy task to restrain let alone by yourself. Definitely a two person job. My 3 foot sav is a very calm lizard at the vet, never had any problems with him. My retic is another very easy reptile to restrain at the vet, as long as you have enough people. I can't wait to see how the 5 foot blackthroat does, but I have a feeling he will be far easier than my last water monitor.

SHE vomits at the site of people. She sure did I never have seen such a high stressed lizard. She would vomit or defecate and dive into her pond and hide under the fake lilly pads anytime we opened our bedroom door or she seen us. Picking her up was a real challenge and could only be done if she was in her pond or another large water source. Holding her for too long meant her ripping your arms up with her wonderful claws, trying to free her snake like neck, whipping her tail back and forth, defecating on you, vomiting on you, constant trying to roll out of your grip.
She was a joy

Re: Croc takes vet hand.
Wow, those are some endearing traits in an animal. I'll be it was love at first vomit!

I have only talked to 2-3 other keepers that have had a monitor so stressed. One solution a gentleman did was cover up the entire cage with dark plastic liner and make a peephole to view his lizards. At first just his silhouette would scare them off but eventually he got to remove the plastic. I wish I had thought of that, maybe my girl would have lived longer.
