British Comedy Awards Condemned For Snake Stunt

Organisers of the British Comedy Awards have been condemned by animal rights groups for using a huge python during its ceremony this week.
The 26ft snake caused chaos as it left its handlers grip and started slithering about the stage. Host Jonathan Ross and popstar Matt Willis, there to present an award, were forced to help control this huge snake as the audience looked on in disbelief.
A reptile expert told the Sun: “ The snake seemed to be distressed. It was a reticulated python and if they bite someone they wrap around them immediately. They are half blind and they attack any heat source like a hand. They are one of the more aggressive pythons. It is madness that snake that size should be used on a comedy show.”
Although ITV claim that a vet was consulted beforehand and declared the stunt safe, they now believe that the heat of the studio lights irritated the snake.
However, the RSPCA are less then happy about the incident and said: " We are strongly opposed to the use of animals for any entertainment where any distress and suffering is likely to be caused.”
What will they come up with next year? Dancing bears?

Yikes... I watched some of the program and missed it, thank Goodness. I have read the local forums and it is distresssing to think they would use the snake knowing it could (and probably would) go wrong.
I couldn't stomach Johnathon Ross's insulting nature, so changed over, I am so glad I did.

My mother called me downstairs when this came on, apparently they had dropped it aswell but I missed that. It was still on stage when harry hill went up to collect an award.

Ok I feel sorry for the snake since they dropped the poor thing, but they did have quite a few handlers there so I don't think it would have gotten far. Also I'm sure the heat from the lights, the lights, and all the different chemical scents were confusing and stressful for the snake, but it didnt seem to be doing anything different than the snake from the Ellen DeGeneres show when Jeff Corwin was on there. The only 2 people handling THAT snake were Jeff and Ellen, where as on the awards show there were 4 or 5 people trying to contain the snake to the stage area.
I dont think it was a good place to have a 26ft long python and I didnt understand the purpose for the snake on the awards show. Jeff was on Ellen to promote animals and conservation.
