Iguanas Invade Florida

There is a news video posted at MSN video about the exploding population of Iguanas in Florida.
Here's the link:
http://video.msn.com/v/us/v.htm?g=E1...0Show&GT1=8618

Something that kind "irked" me is that the man portrayed as the expert removal guy puts the lizards in a freezer to euthanise them.

That is sad. They didn't ask to be released there and they are doing what they know to do naturally. I hate the situation they are in. I feel more for them then I do the residents. Frozen to death, I can't imagine that would be the fate I'd want to face.

Yeah, its amazing how many people are portrayed as "experts" in reptiles or animals in general by these big name companies. I remember once on National Geographic Explorer they had a show about a man named Maynard Cox who, on the show, was referred to as a "world renowned herpetologist" by Walmart. The man clearly new nothing about reptiles as he boasted about catching rattlesnakes and anacondas in the phillipines.

I wish we had a few iguanas, monitors and pythons in my neighborhood. It would solve the stray cat problem.

Unhappy

Wow, this is very sad for the Iguanas...how cruel.

I wonder what Iggy and clover would say if I read them this article. They are always asking me what it's like out there in the "wild". At least, Clover does because she does not believe one word of the horror stories Iggy tells her from his escape adventure.

I wish we could save them all. It's humans fault that they are there, displaced and challenged and in danger every day of their lives, then to be frozen to death. What ugliness.

why dont they just eat them?

its what they do in Latin america

Im serious, why waste them by euthanasia and becoming landfill fodder?

it may sound harsh, but its wasteful, and this is coming from a vegetarian.

Probably the same reason we don't eat the surplus cats and dogs. Lots of things are considered fair game in foreign countries. It's a cultural thing.
