30 August 2005

Symposium on Timber Rattlesnakes:
Biology & Conservation in the Upper Mississippi River Valley

Where: Saint Mary's University, 700 Terrace Heights, Winona, Minnesota
When: 24 Septmber 2005

Timber Rattlesnakes are feared by many, were hunted for bounty in the old
days, and are now protected, but they are losing their foothold in the Upper
Mississippi River Valley. On Saturday, 24 September 2005, at Saint Mary's
University in Winona, there will be a one-day symposium about the history,
biology, conservation, and research of Upper Mississippi River Valley Timber
Rattlesnakes.

Biologists from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa will provide a full
day of
interesting photo presentations about the region's Timber Rattlesnakes,
including their bites. Dr. William Brown, a nationally recognized Timber
Rattlesnake scientist from New York, who has appeared in
National Geographic Magazine, will give a keynote talk about the Timber
Rattlesnake from a national perspective. The symposium is not strictly a
scientific meeting, and will be of interest to the general public,
landowners,
students, conservationists, herpetologists, naturalists, and even those who
don't particularly like rattlesnakes. There will even be a raffle for Timber
Rattlesnake related books and artwork. Don't miss this unique opportunity to
learn about one of the most intriguing animals of our Upper Mississippi
River
Valley.

Registration is appreciated in advance but will also be payable at the door;
$20.00 general or $15.00 students. Mail to:

Dr. Phil Cochran
Saint Mary's University
