A FOUR-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after being bitten by a brown snake, one of the world's deadliest snakes, on the NSW north coast.
He was bitten while playing in bushland near the family's home at Nana Glen near Coffs Harbour, a Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter spokesman said.
He was unconscious when paramedics arrived at the scene.
The boy was rushed to Coffs Harbour Hospital where he was in a critical but stable condition.
"All the snakes are coming out because of the rain followed by the excessive hot weather," a spokesman for the rescue helicopter said.
