Showing how science rocks

Scaly, crawly reptiles. Dried dinosaur bones. Arrowheads shaped from rocks.
About 300 people came to the University of Kentucky's annual Earth Science Open House yesterday to touch, admire and learn.
Melisa Daum of Lexington brought her son, a middle-schooler, to see the exhibits.
"He's enjoyed it," Daum said, as her son looked at different fossils on display. "He collects rocks -- you know how boys and rocks are."
The open house also included exhibits on volcanoes, dinosaurs and meteorites. One exhibit worker, Dan Phelps, said the open house is important, especially for younger children.
"It gets kids interested in science," he said. "It's fun -- it's things they can touch and feel."
