[Health India]: London, Oct 12 : A survey of 1,000 adults carried out at 65 locations across Britain by Universal Pictures UK Ltd has revealed that Britons are more scared of spiders than terrorist attacks or even death.
According to Ananova, creepy insects like spiders, cockroaches and other bugs were voted Britain's number one fear, followed by terrorist attacks in the second place.
Snakes also sends shivers down the spines of most Britons, as fear of snakes occupied the third slot, followed by heights at No 4. Death came only fifth in the list of the nation's 20 most frightening things.
Visiting the dentist came sixth, needles and injections seventh, and public appearances and speeches at work or family events came eighth. Fear of debt was in ninth place, while flying came in tenth.
Psychologist Donna Dawson, while commenting on the results of the survey, said that it was not at all surprising that 'creepy crawlies' like spiders and snakes were considered scarier than terrorist attacks.
"This is because fear of small creatures that scuttle about on four or more legs is a much more ancient, primordial fear, going straight back to caveman days and what might be lurking in the black darkness of our cave homes which could hurt us," the report quoted Dawson as saying.
The Top 10 'fear factors' of Brits are:
1. Spiders 2. Terrorist attacks 3. Snakes 4. Heights 5. Death 6. Visit to dentist 7. Injections 8. Speaking in public 9. Debt 10. Flying
