Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda’s only animal shelter, The Animal Welfare League, is struggling to stay open in the wake of Hurricane Charley. They are without water and power and the roof is damaged.
The animals sit in the dark in 90 degree heat. They aren’t even allowed to go outside because the storm left the yard in disarray.
The shelter is in desperate need of help. They need volunteers to help clean, do carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing. They also are in need of cleaning supplies and water.
If you would like to help, contact the Animal Welfare League at (813)-957-6881.
The Animal Welfare League is located at 3519 Drance Street in Port Charlotte.
