Got a letter from my senator
It actually seems like a personal letter and not a general response.....
Dear Ashley:
Thank you for contacting me with your thoughts about owning nonnative pets. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond.
As a pet owner, I understand the connection between a person and their pet. Over the years I have seen how our dogs have become members of the family. Pets of all kinds provide a source of joy and happiness for many of us, and I believe people should be free to choose whatever pet they like.
Additionally, I understand that this legislation affects many people who work in the exotic animal industry. Businesses would suffer due to unnecessary regulation and jobs would be lost, not only in the 31st district, but around the country. Any regulation should be enacted with close consideration of its economic impact.
Currently, this bill has been referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources. Should this legislation or other related legislation come before the House floor for a vote, I will keep your thoughts in mind.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Should I ever be able to assist you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
John Carter
Member of Congress

Re: Got a letter from my senator
It says he's a member of congress, not the senate. ???

Re: Got a letter from my senator
That's a nice response. I don't get why everyone is up in arms about getting form letters back from senators anyway. Isn't that most of what we're sending them?

Re: Got a letter from my senator
I like that one, it's way better than the ones I've been getting back.

Re: Got a letter from my senator
I typed a long letter of my own to send. Still got a generic 'Thank you for sending your letter about your issue' response with no mention of the actual issue I was concerned about :/

Re: Got a letter from my senator
That's actually a good response for a change. He actually read and understood your letter.
I just wrote mine out, I'm overnighting them to Tom Wolfe tomorrow.

Re: Got a letter from my senator
Much better than what I got, an automated response telling me he doesn't give a crap and he fully stands by the bill...and here I thought these people were in office to REPRESENT the public opinion...not just make their own decisions with no regard to the American people...well I'm glad we have a little compassion out there anyway. A stranger gave me some stamps the other day so I think I'll take that opportunity to send some more letters
Keep up the good work everyone, it's not over yet!

Re: Got a letter from my senator
On a side note, should we still be sending letters to Senators, or just House reps? I'm printing out a bunch of copies to hand out at my local reptile store right now

Really it should be senators. The house is not currently taking any action on this bill.

Re: Got a letter from my senator
Ok good I just printed out a bunch of copies of one of the form letters and little cards with Bill Nelson's address for people to take. I'm going to leave them at my local reptile shop. And I think I may just get a T-shirt printed with something like "have you written to your senator yet? Oppose S373" and wearing it to the Repticon show next week...any other suggestions? I'm as frustrated as everyone else about the lack of interest...
