burmese died
remember how i said i fell in love with the baby burm at the pet shop? well it was there for about 3 months and had never ate. i tried feeding it once a week. i fell in love with that snake and asked on RTB what kind of python i could get that would stay small. well im back to bartending and i told my nephew i was gonna stop today to see the burm and try to feed him again. well when i got there he was busy and i went behind the counter to help someone and i seen an upside down snake floating in water. of course i screamed at him 'there is a dead snake in here"its mouth was open. i said what snake is it(almost in tears) he got this real horrified expression on his face and said it is your little burm! when he got there he said it looked all shriveled and dead and he put it in water to revive it. in front of everyone i burst into tears! then he grabbed the snake and took it in the back and threw it in the garbage! i tried to get it out so i could bury it but he said i wasnt gonna go out in a foot of snow and try to bury it. we got in our first fight. i said to him'oh yea it cant make you any money now so what the **** good is it' my pet shop days are over im not going back my daughter can bring my rats home. i just cant take that kind of ****. no im not a cryer. that last time i can remember crying about anything is when i thought my sick snake couldnt breath and before that when armegeddon came out. i feel real sick to my stomack over this. can my rtb not even appear sick and just die for no apperant reason? i know the burm died cause it couldnt eat but can they die if everything seems okay?

Louise, it is really sad, I know, I went there recently with Freckle. But don't blame your Nephew or refuse to go there again. Seems to me you thought your Nephew did the right thing before this happened. Sadly, this has happened, but your Nephew didn't plan it and is probably as upset as you.
He is right though, burying a snake in winter with frozen ground is not an easy job, the alternative is to put it in the freezer and wait till thaw. Do you want that constant reminder every time you go to make dinner ?

Yeah, tis a silly thing we do, letting ourselves get attached to animals/reptiles that can't tell us what is wrong or how they feel or how to fix them.
Even vetting a common species is a really hard thing to do.
You have a choice, keep at it and help to make the majority of herps that you come into contact with, lives better, or give up completely, get rid of all the herps you have and love and close your heart right down.
The horrible is far outweighed by the wonderful when something turns out right.

i have never been attached to animals and i have had all kinds. these darn little worms(LOL) have really gotten under my skin! but not to long ago at the shop a worker there was cleaning cages and he changed a 25 watt bulb in the baby rainbows cage and he put a 75 watt in. that was another one i babied since it got there and it s bottom half was fried and the top half was still moving. of course it died. the kid is not allowed to come there if my car is there cause my nephew knows the kid is in danger! it is to much for me i have to stay away. seeing my burm like that is gonna haunt me for along time.

Then sounds to me that when you get over this (and you will, eventually) you have to go back there, at least to make sure things go right for the animals. And to kick asses when they don't.
[edit note; donkees ???? That was supposed to say something else and auto edit took over, looks a little dumb now. Lets say 'butt' instead. ]

Only time will do that for you. Rest easier in the knowledge that you helped it as much as you could.
Now, try to stop thinking about it, go clean a cupboard out or start redecorating a snake house. Go give your own babies a cuddle and be thankful for them.

When animals die it is horrible, I have done many reptile rescues and seen some horrific deaths and have cried for days over pets. May sound stupid but my good friend Kaa a ball python that was older than me(30 yrs +) passed away last summer, I have his daughter Kiara and everytime I hold her it hurts me inside missing my Kaa. But life goes on and everything that lives must die. It is so hard and I feel your pain, I honestly do, I have shed so many tears over scaleys, but the joy of working with such amazing creatures is so much better than the hurtful times. Like I said everything that lives must one day die, so just try to accept that and dont feel bad about crying, it shows that you love the animals and it is good. If you didnt hurt when something died that would be awful, just remember that death brings a type of peace to an injured or ill animal that was in pain. No matter what you believe happens after death you know there is no pain or sadness.
Take care and kiss your snakeys extra tonight LOL! Dont let the pain of one's death stop you from making "friends" with more snakes at the shop or anywhere else. You are such a caring person.
Love Sarah

Very sorry to hear about that louise. I have had a sudden death with my first snake, she went from OK to dead in less than 12 hrs. However, I feel the meds that the vet gave her is what did it, so a little different situation.
Time heals all things. Hang in there
