Passing of Nipper
As much as I like to post on RTB, this forum is everyones least favorite. Today my Female Amazon Tree Boa died. She was a real nicely maked garden (Ex Halloween) Actually had a pretty desent temperment. Slow to strike, but of course she did eventually.
Not sure what the cause was. Only thing different was on feeding day she was really hungry She normally eats 1 f/t Jumbo mouse a week. These mice are the size of most small rats. She ate almost every week, except in shed. She pooped very regularly. Well this week i had a left over mouse and she had downed her real quick, so I offered her another. She scarfed that down real quick too. Next few days she acted totally normal, perched all the time. Then about 5 days after she ate she got very bloated. I had a feeling she was going to regurge. And the next day I found her on the floor of the cage totally disoriented, and regurged 2 mice. She looked awful. I soaked her in a shallow bowl of 50/50 Pedialyte. She still didnt look too good. Then when i came home I found her of course laying over her heat pad. She must have been dead a few hours cuz the basement already was starting to smell.
Nothing had changed in her husbandry. Only thing different was she had 2 mice.
I had gotten her as an adoption about 5 months ago. She was right about 5' long.
I'll miss the little girl.

Oh My!
Aww...
I am so sorry.
Are you going to get a necropsy done? I can't believe that the extra mouse would do that much damage, that quickly.
My thoughts are with you Ed.

I had a similar case.I bought some huge adult frozen mice at a local pet store. The mice looked like they were pregnant.I feed every snake that day,and everyone looked very full.2 days later the snakes that ate thos mice regurged, they all were limp, paled color.2 died and one survived with daily antibiotics that me and my wife gave her.Sorry about your lose!

ugh that sucks man. Probably got blocked up ...once they get a bit bigger than a pencil....feed every 2weeks....as adults every 3 weeks...a skipped meal with anything corallus is sometimes actually a good thing...sure they would eat daily if you feed them that much...but their little systems just can't process that much food.

Thanks all!!! She was a real looker too. The only real pic i have of her is when she was about to shed, and I introduced her to Hannibal.

She is the garden.
Brett usually I would agree, but I have been trying to get some wieght on her. She was an adoption and was a little bit thin, not terrible though. She did poop pretty much every week. So I really dont think she was blocked up. I tried to keep her on an every other week schedule for feeding. But every time I feed the others she perks up looking for food. She made me fel guilty not to feed her. Well I'll miss her allot.

Weight will come in time...doesn't have to happen over night. Adult amazons...or corallus anything for that matter just cannot be fed every week without severe consequences....however....a malnurished snake sometimes loses liver function and then when feeding resumes even to a normal status, sometimes they drop dead on ya and there is nothing you can do about it or even see coming.
