R.I.P. Izabele
Well everyone I have some sad news. My BCI Red Tail Boa died tonight.
I am not sure what happened, I have no clue what caused her death and to be honest I doubt I ever will.
We got her 5 weeks ago, she had just ate when we took her home. After a week I fed her a f/t rat fuzzy. It was a bit too big for her and I was really worried. Two days later she bloated up really bad and by morning she had regurged the rat fuzzy.
The next day I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with jarida (spelling). From there the vet put her on some antibiotics and she seemed to respond well to them. On the 7th day I took her back to the vet to make sure everything was alright. He gave her a clean bill of health, everything came back ok.
He told me not to worry about the duration of time since her last feeding and since she was doing so well to try and feed her when I got home. I stopped by the pet store and got a frozen mouse fuzzy.
I tried to feed it to her but she would not take it. Everyone didn’t seem concerned with this since she just got done with some antibiotics. I decided to wait until the next week before trying to feed her again.
That brings us to day. Ever since Sunday she had been, well I can only describe it as slowing down. When I took her out of her cage and put her in the tote she was very slow to respond to things. I offered the mouse, she wouldn’t have anything to do with it. After about 10 minutes of trying I figured she wasn’t hungry and put her back in her cage.
It was then I really noticed something was funny. She was not moving. I picked her up and she … well she was just a limp noodle in my hand, her response was little to nothing at all. After about 20 minutes she stopped responding and now, she is dead.
All I can say is I am going to throw out everything in her cage, and soak the cage with bleach water for a day or two. I am not sure when or if I am going to get another boa, but I sure hope my next one will have better luck with me than this one.
Good by Izabele, you will be missed.

I'm very sorry to hear that, Toker. Don't let the death of one make you completely lose interest. It may have been something you couldn't have prevented.

Don't let this get you down. I personally had my first die due to bad advice from the pet store. It was around 13 years ago and they told me to put her on cedar chips. It didn't take long before the oil in the chips did the poor little thing in.
I promise you that this snake did not starve to death if it had eaten recently...it sounds like it may have had other problems.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss...just don't let it beat ya.

I'm also sorry here about your lost But let that get you down and discourage you from tring again a few years ago I lost a pair of Uromastyx
that had been taken to a so called reptile vet that I was referred to and they were put on antibotics which seem to work at first then the decline came fast
Well take care

Sorry to hear that TOker. Unfortunately, it is part of keeping herps. Compared to commonly kept pets, little is knows about health problems in herps. Don't get discouraged. Happens to us all.

So sorry for you, Toker. Remember her with love, and love the next one just as much. I lost a baby recently, and it just hurts. Don't give up because of one heartbreak. If things are meant to be, they will be. Good luck, and many hearts are hurting for you.
