RIP Cate (dialup warning)
Yesterday was my 27th birthday. I awoke to find Cate - my " perfect" female Surinam - freshly shed & looking AWESOME - what a great start to the day!
When we returned home last night I stopped in the snake room to show a friend how wonderful Cate looks after a shed, and to my horror she was dead. I'm awaiting necropsy reports and very much in a state of shock right now...Cate, her brother “Tango” & my blackheaded python are the three favorite snakes in my collection...

Yikes! that sucks Kara...she was a beauty...I wonder why snakes always seem to shed just before they die on us? I've had that happen a few times. It's weird...anyway...sorry for your loss. I know she will be missed.

Thanks for the kind words everyone (even you Brett). This has easily been the roughest week of my herpkeeping career...I can't think of another time when I've cried so much over ANYTHING, or lost so much sleep. I guess I just feel like there's a certain light that's gone out in the world, and my snake room is a dimmer place because of it.

What a bummer. She was a beautiful snake. Very pink as an adult. Losing one you raised from a baby is always hard. I'd like to know what caused this in what appears to be a perfectly healthy snake.
I think what BoaMan meant is that it's strange she shed, then up and died for no apparent reason, like Julius said.
