Had to have my grey rat snake, Storm, euthanized a couple of weeks ago. An innocent looking scratch that was on his throat at purchase turned out to be an abcess. Treated him from Dec 9th until February. The infection simply would not heal and began to spread. It was believed that it had gotten into the jaw bone as well. The vet and I also believe that there was some type of underlying immunity problem which was preventing him from healing. RIP little buddy. [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif[/img]

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Euthanization is a terribly hard choice to make, but is more likely than not the most humane decision. I'm sure he will be missed.

Thanks all, for the support. [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img] It was difficult to make the decision to put him down and he will definitely be missed. I handled him a lot and was very fond of him. He was really a great snake and was so good through all the stuff we put him through in treating him. I've nursed other neglected snakes back to health in the past that looked in much worse shape and would never have guessed that such a tiny little mark could result in such problems.
