RIP Cleo

I am really sad right now. I went downstairs to feed all my animals, and discovered that Cleo has given up on this fight shes been fighting for the last few months. I dont know what was wrong with her, we can only guess it was internal. She hadnt eaten for 5-6 months before passing, and everything was in good shape, she was just failing. I was following in structions from not only my vet, but a well trusted person on this forum (I will leave this person unnamed unless they want to come forward). Both these sources recommend that I tube feed her a mixture to help get her healthy enough to digest a rat in the first place. I plan on getting her a necropsy this week. I had a question though. Is it safe to put her in my freezer? I only have 2 freezers, one has my rats, and one has my families food. Is It safe to put her in one of these and not worrying about transfering whatever she had? She was one of my favorite snakes, and I will miss so much looking into her cage and seeing her pretty face. I knew she wasnt doing good, so right now i am not exactly shocked. I will miss her. She was the calmest nicest snake I have ever seen. At least I can say she isnt suffering anymore.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Owen. I went through a similar issue with my first boa, Tambora.

Thnx...is it safe to put her in my rat freezer or not? I just got my full order of rats in today, and i dont want to contaminate them. One friend of mine said that the freezer will kill all the bacteria, and there are no worries.

Hi,

I am sorry for your loss.

Don't freeze her if you do the vet will not be able to do a necropsy on her. Just put her in the refrigerator and get her to the vet as soon as possible. The long you wait the less they can test for I believe and she will start to decompose and the vet may not want to work on her if she stinks really bad. When ever I get a necropsy done I bring the snake in the same day or at least by the next morning.

Aw, that sucks. I saw the name Cleo and was hoping it wasn't your Cleo. I had no idea she had stopped eating. I am so sorry, Owen. Let us know how the necropsy turns out. I don't see why you can't keep her body in your freezer wrapped up. Wow, this is seriously sad. She was a beautiful snake.
