Ugh....I have the latest 2 in a row? That's never good for here.
If you think it's hard to have one die on ya.....try having to put one to sleep. I came in night before last and found the 7 foot Labrynith burm that likely had BD ...chronic resp/pneumonia due to non-existant immunity.....choking on his phlegm ...I have been dealing with him best I can for over a year since I got him in rescue. anyway....he's gone now.

I am truly sorry about this one man. As you know, that news tore me up last night.
I know that he had the best treatment a snake could get while in your care.

Sory to hear that bro. He was a cool looking snake. I know that his problems have been chronic. You did pretty good with him. The little Pyg the guy gave me at Columbia because it wasn't doing well ended up dying last night too.

Aw Jules,
I am so sorry to hear the fella didn't make it. Another hole in your heart it seems. Just know that you did all that you could for the fella and he isn't suffering anymore. Hang in there baby, we know you are hurting now.
Sincerely, T

The odds were stacked against ya, big man. You did your best, it just wasn't meant to be. Don't lose sight of the # of other snakes you've brought back from the brink, and all the ones you have that are thriving.
You do good work.

thanx for the nice words guys...the only thing harder than putting him down was doing a rough necorpsy. He definatly had pneumonia...I only went into one lung and at least a shotglass full of clear liquid ran out. trachea was full of yellow mucous too. poor guy was just a mess.

Sorry to about this. You gave it your all, it was just his time. While we're on the subject... the illness the snake was suffering from (Pnumonia as a result from chrinic RI if I'm not mistaken) can be caused by inbreeding taken too far. When snakes are inbred after so many generations their immune systems suffer, among other things, and can fall victum to chronic RI. Dumeril boas are a prime example. Because of the exportation laws of Madagascar there were only so many original blood lines, forcing breeders to inbreed the snakes constantly if they wanted more babies. I'm not saying all inbreeding should be banned. I myself have 1.1 boas from the same clutch I plan on breeding, however, the babies will not be sold as pairs to people I don't trust not to inbreed and sell pairs again. Don't really know where I'm going with this.... Breeders, just be responsible. -Juggalo

Yah....and since Bob Clark started the Labrinyths...I've been doing a little subtle hinting around at this on his site lol....but his deciples are all pretty loyal and blind to any notion that he may be less than Godly and perfect.
I don't think the act of inbreeding it'sself is responsible for BD or IBD or any other chronic deadly disease....but it certainly weakens the animals immuno system and if these diseases are present by chance in one of the early breeders...and then inbred over and over....that gene is certainly passed down the line.
Out of curiosity....why do you plan on inbreeding boas? What trait do you have that is so special that it is worth risking all this?
