I just noticed my RTB with his head curled under his upper body...UPSIDE DOWN! I picked him up, and he was VERY weak, thought he was dead, but still a little stiff. He then yawned, and went limp Poor little guy...I loved that snake...he was my lil bud! NOW, any suggestions as to why this happened? He didn't feed lastnight, and he has been very lethargic the last couple weeks. Maybe he has (oops...had ) parasites? I really don't know WTF just happened. He was fine earlier this morning, and I just looked at him, and now he's DEAD! The temp was a little low this morning, but I really doubt ONE night of cold would do that. Would it? PLEASE HELP, so I don't make the same mistake with my Burm, if it was something I did!

OKAY...WTF..he is STILL MOVING! Very weakly, but surely enough...he is still *alive*. I think he's in his last moments though...like he keeps *coming back* from the dead...first he's all limp, then he'll start using his muscles again...I don't know what to do!!! Whoa there buddy.. I would reccomend you take him to a VET ASAP..sounds like hes in dire straights..this may be rare but I would call and warn the vet of a possible IBD case JUST TO BE SURE. You would probably have noticed IBD way before but theres always a small chance. He seems malnourished possibly due to internal parasites? Either way get a vet to check him out ASAP! And if the burm is near him sperate them.

I just don't understand how he went from fine one minute to half dead the next...THIS SUCKS!!!

Ok you need to seperate them now, just incase its parasites or IBD.. go to www.arav.org and search for a reptile vet in your area. Good Luck.

Don't know if this means anything or not, but he is pretty translucent. Never noticed it before. I really wish I knew what the #$%^$%^$%^$%^& was wrong with him. I don't mean to be materialistic, as his death (or whatever he's doing right now) is a great loss for me, and a few other people's as well...he was a loved snake Anyway, I have spent a lot of money on both Thumper and now leo, and I don't want Leo dying from this too, whatever it is...so any help as far as maybe what to look for for ANY possible reasons of death would be appreciated

How I found my snake vet is by calling regular dog and cat vets and getting recomendations. Usually some animal hospitals are open on sunday, might wanna call around. My snake vet is the same one that is the vet for the zoo in my area. Call around and listen to answering machines also. The vets answering machine will usually tell you of an oncall vet or a clinic open on off hours. Hope that help!

'nother question...I know this might sound cruel making plans already, but I *did* plan on giving the Burm the 60 Gal tank eventually...(Red-Tail was in it...) How do I go about cleaning it out? Regular Bleach method? I don't even know if it'll fit in my bathtub...have to wait 'till my roomie gets back so I can move it anyway...but I want to kill every little b*****d in that tank, if it's parasites that killed him! ok to clean it out id use pure bleech..put some in there scrub it in and make sure to wipe out the corners well..then dump the bleech and wash it out repeatedly..let it dry in the sun..the bleech (if there is even a wee bit after washing) becomes non-active after drying in the sun.. do this outside save yourself the headache.. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks for all the help, guys...I just wish there was something I could have done to prevent this, if anything. #$%^$%^$%^$%^&, this sucks I guess I'm gonna head to the store and pick up some bleach...I want that thing so clean I'd eat out of it...I'm sure Leo would LOVE the extra room! BTW, he DID eat lastnight...ate a hopper and a pinkey rat. Thumper showed NO interest...even in a live pinkey...so I guess I kinda knew something was up lastnight, as he has never had a prob with feeding before. Just didn't think much of it. His lethargic nature sure had me worried though. Shoulda had him checked out just based on that. Anyway, I'll be back...any more suggestions? Keep 'em coming! Sorry about the loss, but I would get a necropsy done on it before putting ANYTHING in that tank, cleaned or not!
It could be a number of things and to know for sure, then necropsy is the way.
There are some illnesses that can kill quickly or even parasites or other things, such as chemical poisoning.
Find out first, then decide whether to reuse the tank.
A question for you, how old was he?
Where did you get him?

Sorry about your loss. We had a similar incident last year. I brought home some corns from a friend of mine. I knew the animals so I didn't bother to quarantine them. Big mistake. Seems one of them had a bacterial infection. Before we could get it under control we lost half our corn collection. This stuff really bites when it happens and you really should do the necropsy. Hey Driftwood! I'm sorry for your lost! And I'm so sorry for reading this post so late!! Anyway, I live real close to IB and I know of a great exotic vet clinic...It's call Avain & Exotic Animal Hospital and it's located in the Mission Valley area. # 260-1412 and ask for Dr. Todd Cecil. There is another exotic vet in the south bay area but I totally trust Dr. Cecil and won't go anywhere else. So, if you have any concerns over your other snaked, don't hesitate to call...the vet or one of the techs will help you out! I hope this helps!
Good Luck!
