I had to go out for awhile this afternoon. While out I got a phone call from my husband regarding a dead snake in my collection. He says it killed itself. After we went through the which cage is it in thing and all that...It turns oput to be the Suriname Boa I had taken in from highlander back in like December/January. The snake came into me with burns on about 1/3rd the length of it's lower body from a UTH. We successfully rehabbed the snake np and it has been doing fine all along with no issues at all healthwise.
I told him I would check it out when I got home then. Couldn't do anything about it while I am not there.
So I get home and ask WTF happened. he tells me that the snake strangled/suffocated itself. UH HUH He shows me the snake and ..YUP It did just what he said it did.
The snake either was shedding or had shed. The shed snake's head was inside the shed and the shed also was wrapped around it's neck tightly also. Weird thing is the snake either shed itself from the tail forward or climbed back into the shed after it got it off headfirst. Then proceeded to cause it's own demise.
My husband thoroughly checked the snake out when he found it like that and it was allready dead, so he left the snake as he found it for me to see what it had done.
Anyone ever hear of or have a snake that has strangled itself during a shed like this ?

There was a post not too long ago (don't rember who posted it tho).
About a snake that crawled back into it's own shed, I think that is what it was.
I remember that the person had pulled it out adn it didn't die but was limp when found so it was going to suffocate. I wish I could remeber who posted that one. That has been the only time I have heard of this tho!
Sorry about your loss Lori!

Thast really bites.. It sucks to get one rehabbed back to health just to see it die from something like this.

Damm Lori...
You are having a bad year for oddball stuff in the collection.
Sorry to hear about this ones demise.
Odd things like this happen sometimes, and the more critters ya have the better the odds on strange things happening.
I kinda wonder if this would ever happen in the wild, as there is a lot more room for the snakes in the wild to crawl away and never see their shed ever again.

Wow. Sorry to hear about that Lori. I'm assuming it's very uncommon, but I still think I'll pay more attention during shedding time from now on.
