Couple months ago I lost my Savannah Monitor"Floyd". Floyd was the absolute tamest Savannah Bar none. She(yes she) would go for walks through the neighborhood without a leash and always walk at your side. The only thing she didnt like was to be held under her belly. I did a retile show in Chciago "Reptile Fest" she crawled up on my shoulder and layed up there all day. 8 hours without a fuss. She never opened her mouth once to me.
I got Floyd as an adoption from the Chicago Herp Society. She got her name from her previous owner. She kept an Elderly man company through his last years. He Passed on and his children didnt want Floyd so they contacted CHS and put her up for adoption. Then I got her. They thought Floyd was male, I took her to the vet and found out otherwise but I kept her name.
A couple months ago I went to my monthley herp meeting and was offered a baby Savannah that came through adoptions. I turned it down because I didnt want 2 monitors. That night i went home went into the basement turne out all the pets lights , pet Floyd good night like I always do. She raised her head up so I could scratch her chin like always. And went to bed.
I went down in the morning to turn on the lights and as soon as I opened the door to the basement I was hit with an aweful smell, and found Floyd laying dead under the heat lamp.
The Ironic thing is it was the same night as I was offered the other monitor.
I Had no clue Floyd was failing, she ate and deficated and acted normally til the end.
I called the lady that handles adoptions and ended up taking the baby Savannah

I had her for 2 great years. Who says you cant get attached to something cold blooded.
