new baby tegu died.

I got a baby black and white columbian tegu from ben siegel reptiles like 10 days ago, and found it dead this morning. and the money back gaurantee is 7 days. But honestly I have no clue what happened. It was on reptile bark, which was way too big for it to swallow, it had a 100 watt bulb on one side of its 20 gallon cage. It didn't have any hot rocks to burn itself on. It ate crickets, which were fed to my other animals and they're fine. It had a water bowl, basking log, and hide box. I found it dead srawled on top of his log. When I got it it looked really active, it was running around and biting me like a new healthy reptile. Then a couple days ago it started lookin sort of skinny (not skeleton like or anything, just slightly skinny that I thought could be fixed with a little fattening up. Then yesterday it was a little calmer than usual. and now it's dead, and I have no clue why. Does anyone know what happened? Did it sound sick when I bought it or was it something I did that killed it?

Sorry to hear about your loss. Have you called and talked to Mr. Siegel? I am sure he would work with you on this.

Columbians are a bit different then the others. Aside from looking, eating and acting different--most are imported. If this breeder captive bred this lizard he is in the minority because Columbia readily exports these guys very inexpensively.
They are not as cold tolerant as the tegus from argentina either....and are not as hardy.
When you put it all together it could have been anything (basking temps definately needed to be higher).
If you invest in a tegu in the future, for so many reasons, try and buy an Argentine Red or BW. I would go with the BW...Columbians are problems waiting to occur. They are nippy and then as they get older they begin to BITE 90% of the time. Neither of my tegus were nippy as babies. Columbian tegus are very poor captives, and are not pet quality animals at all
Very sorry for your loss though. It's hard not to feel terrible when these things happens but it doesn't sound like this is your fault.
