One Eyed Willy

This little grey squirrel lost his eye sometime right after we moved in here this past summer. It looked really bad for a while but healed up and he is doing great. I have no idea how he lost it but I am amazed at how things like this heal on wild animals. He is by no means the weak link in the squirrel population around here. He will come eat from my hand as will a few others that have gotten used to me feeding them. Willy is a bully though. If Willy is around...only Willy gets peanuts. He chases the others away...So I don't guess the missing eye is too much of a handycap - at least not for One Eyed Willy the Wonder Squirrel.

Cute lil bugger, they do get real ornery when theres food. i have them battling in my yard all the time. Pretty awesome verticle jumps they have.

All ya gotta do is sit in the same place every day ...sit still and toss peanuts or something out for them and get them used to coming close to get them...then after a week or so, start putting the nuts closer and closer till you have them coming up and taking them from between your feet. DON'T MOVE...eventually they will get pretty bold...at this point ONLY put the nuts where you want the squirrels to come to....don't throw any out in the yard. I have one that will climb my leg and sit in my lap and take a peanut from my hand. Most of them will either sit at my feet and beg or jump up on the porch rail next to me and beg...Little beggers!

If you got to looking their is probably an albino squirrel around and he is a het. Since he is a het instead of being born with one eye they can use it til a certain age and then it explodes. :P

	Heterozygous Heterozygous - the animal carries the gene for a genetic trait but does not outwardly demonstrate the trait. Example: A boa that is het for albino looks normal but carries the albino gene. When it is bred to another het for albino boa or an albino boa, a percentage of the offspring will be albino.
