very nice lizard...I'm partial to monitors and cyclura (the big guys) so keep posting pics!
Whats her/his name? How old? What's his diet like?
Give the lizard alot of roaming time while you find a bigger cage...even a large bathroom is ok until he gets trustworthy to walk about.
Good luck !

I don't know if it's a he or a she. I call him Homer. I have no idea how old it is. I found it walking around the flea market my wife and I work at on the weekends. When I saked around, everyone said that there was a guy that sold them. Some say he was closed down by the Gov. He left them there all week and sometimes did not show back up for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. He never cleaned there cages. This was the 3rd one found there. No one at the flea market could tell me his name or how to find him. Not sure I want to find him after all the storys. I was going to give him to my step-son, but his dad said no way.
He eats like a pig. I got some mice (fuzzies) form rodentpro.com. He eats like 6 of them and some crickets. I think I will move up to hoppers next order.
He is still not very tame.

lol..yeah, that sounds like a savannah...heh. they are garbage disposals. just watch his diet, and be careful not to over feed him. they really dont know when they are full. be sure to keep up with the crickets, as this will help him get his exercise by chasing them..espically after eating so many rodents. oh, and as big as he is, if he is..he can probably be moved up to mice, but i wouldnt feed him 6 in one sitting.

Wow nice find
I have a pair of tegus and they can eat 5 or 6 chicks at one sitting so I know what your talking about.
They have even eaten guinia pigs....amazing appetites.
It sounds like he wasn't cared for that well for a while, so you should be dusting his insects as much as possible with Ca and multivitamins.
Is his tail healthy looking, particularly where it meets his body?
What type of lighting/heating substrate are you using?
If you go to ProExotics.com they have excellent info about monitor care--they don't sell savannahs but basic care is the same. They have great thoughts on substrates and temps. You can even read up on sexing if you want to try and sex him/her.
Have you tried some warm soaks in your tub? I do this with the tegus weekly and they seem to enjoy it, even though they are really outgrowing it...they need a filtered pool.
Homer looks good though---enter him into to LOM contest here next month!
Give him time to tame down..I was just asking the same questions about my rhino and it's as if she came online and read my post because she started calming down immediately.
Good Luck!
