Royal Diadems(Spalenosophis d. atriceps)

Here are my two Diadems that were recently given to me by a friend...
Seeing that they are native to Egypt and surrounding areas,I named them AMENTI and AKU....
heh..pretty fitting for them both,imo..[img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img]
This is the girly,Amenti


They are both somewhat thin,so we are trying to get their weight back up to par...and besides that,they seem in good shape...


Im not really into many colubrids,but I have to admit,that these two are really interesting snakes and Im starting to like them alot...lol..
Their scales are very rough and feel nothing like my other snakes...not to mention they are whippy and hissy..which I also like alot..hehheee

Anyway,heres Aku,who is a tad more flighty than Amenti..but a sweety nonetheless


These snakes are sometimes called Egyptian ratsnakes and Pakistani jeweled Ratsnakes,yet arent even in the Elaphe family...heh..go figure..


These snakes also go through some color change and are extremely orange & firelike when they are adults...They are also very iredescent and...dang it..I just like em! [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif[/img]

How very pretty, Beccah. There is an adult version of those guys for sale in the local pet shop. S/he catches my eye every time I go in there. Unfortunatly, s/he strikes the glass - hard- when I look in the cage. I always feel gulity for looking thinking s/he is going to hurt him/herself doing that. But what a pretty and vivid orange s/he is! Those babies are going to be soooooo pretty as adults. It's almost a shame they don't keep their 'baby markings' that's pretty, too. Keep sharing pics, I want to watch the color change, please.

I read an article [probably in reptiles] regarding their husbandry. If i remember correctly, they are diurnal arid region snakes that require hot conditions rather than the normal cool to warm gradients that most snakes prefer. Correct me if i'm wrong, just curious.

nice!!! I was in a petstore several years ago and while looking at the snakes in the top cages...I felt something touch my leg. I stepped back and there was an Egyptian Rat...squeezed out between the pieces of glass in the sliding door...half in and half out. He looked kinda stuck, so I forced my finger between the glass to give him more space and he crawled right out into my other hand...the cages were all locked and secure but apparently his cage had the glass broken out and was replaced with plexi so it was a little more flexable. Anyway...I just kept browsing the store looking and noone noticed I had him...When I got ready to leave, I said here, you may want to put him in a different cage. He doesn't seem to like the one he was in. The girl working there looked at me like...how did you get him out?
