My lil gopher snake does that, too.
And I agree, I DO NOT recommend doing this with a larger snake or certain types of snakes!! Boas usually have a dreadfully strong feeding response and would likely take your fingers with the rat. You really have to understand your snake and its eating habits before even thinking about attempting this.
Great pics, Jeannie.

Very fun! But just to re-emphasize for any new members, be very careful about 'hand' feeding a snake of any appreciable size. The male ball python I had a few years ago I would feed by hand on occaision when he was a yearling, but once he acheived adulthood I stuck with the hemostats.

I'm sorry guys, I didn't even think about the possibility of someone comming along and thinking that would be cool to do with a burm or somthing. You think I may want to delete? I think most of the regulars have seen it and the pics will be in my in photo album. Maybe put a warning "DONT TRY THIS AT HOME" ?...lol If you think that we need to delete please feel free. It will not hurt my feelings or anything.

Well, I don't think it's necessary to delete the post...the pics are pretty cool! It's one of those "Warning, coffee in cup is extremely hot" kinda things. Most of us are smart enough to know that if ya spill hot coffee on ya, it's gonna burn! Likewise if you feed a big burm a rabbit while holding under your chin you're likely gonna get in trouble. But there are always a few out there that just feel the need to be a candidate for the Darwin Awards!!!

Anyone that hand feeds a Boa or any other large snake is asking to bleed....
