Nero vs. Telaisen
My new kids, courtesy of Ryan of Clockwork Reptiles and Lynn of Boas and Balls.
First Telaisien whom the lot of you have seen somewhat less of. Sorry to disappoint, but only one picture. I'm busy tonight and he was much more interested in getting away from the camera and exploring than sitting still for it.
He's a good boy. Collected, confident, well proportioned and very well defined. Lynn did a good job with him.
All that's left is to get him on f/t (he's been taking live medium mice according to the feeding chart that came with). He snapped at a pinky rat but once he missed he lost interest. I'll try again in a couple weeks once he's more satisfactorily settled in.
One thing that amuses me is that he looks little like either his site-picture (where he looks like a higher red) or the one that Lynn sent me a couple weeks ago (where he looks like a higher orange instead). So far he hasn't the fabled BRB iridescence and his color could go either way. Time will tell.
Next is Nero - who I'm a bit more the fond of. I'll always love these kids and Ryan certainly delivered.
He's got such a dark little face.

Re: Nero vs. Telaisen
Nero's the most confident snake I've ever met. I'm so accustomed to the Colombians, it's quite a treat to compare the two. I gave him a couple of hides and he flipped one over and sat inside of it like it was a bowl.

Re: Nero vs. Telaisen
I can't help but smile whenever I see him. I stretched a length of 3 bamboo rods lashed together from side to side in his tub and he spends most of his time up there curled up in a ball like a little tree Boa.
Can't wait to put him in a permanent enclosure and show him off with something other than a desolate blight of quarantine, lol.
Telaisien too... His enclosure is top-secret. The enclosure will be an AP, of course, but its theme is something I've seen nowhere else. It's going to be epic.

Re: Nero vs. Telaisen
Congrats on the new additions! Nero especially is a little looker, I love all the color and contrast down his tail.

Re: Nero vs. Telaisen
Major score on Nero, the boys quite the looker! From the photos he seems to be have nice uniform markings. I can't wait to see him as he goes through the different color phases, I love when they go through the high salmon color phase best, it just contrasts with the red tail and make the colors just pop out at you.

Re: Nero vs. Telaisen
There were a couple of his brothers I was looking at. Nero was actually my 3rd pick. Then again, I inquired after the first two I saw - both of which were sold - and Ryan posted Nero and I put down on him that hour.
I thoroughly enjoy his personality. He's always out, almost always doing something, not insecure or anxious at all. It's nice to actually see the beautiful snake I bought whenever I walk by instead of a tail or nose-tip from the doorway of a hide.
In contrast, Telaisien's exactly as I expected. Hiding. All the time. He finally decided to come up out of the dirt and explore his enclosure, was hanging out on his cross-beam looking adorable.
Anyways... I really like their tubs, but they're beginning to annoy me. I'm so accustomed to glass and having to fight for the right temperatures and humidity that I've made it an art and effortless.
Seems I get entirely too much of either in these things!
The humidity is suitable for Telaisien. 75/cool-end 82/warm-end. It seems sometimes I can achieve the 80 degree warm-end I'm shooting for (my thermostat is set at 78, but no matter how low I turn it - it's been as low as 74 - it won't stay on 80.)
The tub is 4' long by about 1.5' wide. I've noticed that he's burying himself on the edge of the heated end and not directly above it, which is seemingly his way of accounting for the difference. Regardless, I'm not worried about overheating him. This is exactly why I wanted my tubs in advance so I could work the kinks out. But, of course, nothing ever works out, lol.
Nero's tub is beneath Telaisien's, thus allowing for substrate as well as radiant run-off from the above enclosure. Basking spot of 90 degrees, warm end of 78-80. He's currently submerged dead center in the warm end with his head resting on the surface.
So far seemingly so good.

Re: Nero vs. Telaisen
Telaisien took his apparently first-ever rat last night - and a f/t at that, also his first apparently.

I so intended to, but his freakin' tub is so foggy I couldn't barely see through the sides. Telaisien's tub is sitting atop his and it's surprising how heavy two 4x1.2x1 tubs can be, lol.
I've had the lid cracked for the last three days trying to air it out. I borrowed a sauder-gun from an associate to apply the ventilation, it's hard to tell whether I need MORE ventilation or it's just too moist from the original misting in there.
Tubs are a pain. Lol.

Re: Nero vs. Telaisen
ya, I just set up my first tub, and it was a pain getting just the right amount of holes so it wouldn't be to humid, buti suppose it's easier then trying to get glass humid enough...
on another not Gargamel took his first f/t rat with me last night as well.

I've had fewer issues keeping glass at the appropriate level of humidity. It's easier to work up than it is down.
Moistening a glass setup is easily done, but keeping it so is another matter entirely as everyone knows and their mothers could probably guess. Mine are a special-case though, I'd like to think, and I avoid the usual tampering that leaves them looking rather tacky.
I just need to air Nero's tub out long enough for it to dry. His substrate comes out of the bag moist. I shouldn't have misted at all that first day.
It's my general rule to have a setup prepared at least a week in advance for any new arrival, but this time around, unfortunately, I wasn't able to do that, especially when I very much needed to.
Telaisien's holding up great. 95-100% for youngster BRBs is more than easily accomplished with tubs. No doubt about that at all.
I've replacement thermo-hygrometer combos coming and they should better suit the tweaking. Those last I bought for this pair turned out to be trifling pieces of trash.
