Here are my two newest babies, 1.1 Java File Snakes (Elephant Trunk Snakes or Java Wart Snakes) - Achrocordis javinicus (I think). THese guys are fully aquatic, have NO ventral scales, have flaps over their nostrils and epiglottis (to prevent water from coming in). Obviously fish eaters and reach over 6 feet in lenght (descriptions are conflicting). Not much is known about this species. And captive are info is precisous little. They are captive born (among the first int he US as far as I can tell). One of them took a fish for me tongiht, though i do not which one, just one less fish in there. This is temp housing, their new enclosure is "settling". Since ther is not much info, much of it is "hear say" and I am trying my best.
THis is what they will have:
4 gallons of water in a 10 gallong (for now)
Sand substrate
Lots of hides
water slightly acidic and about 2 tblsespoons of aquarium salt
Slightly acidic PH
Filtration and earation (even thought hey breathe air)
Water temp at about 80 F
No bright light
If anyone has kept this species and has some tips, please share.
Anyway, excuse the quality of the pics, but it is an old digital through water and had to take some lightening with PS. Maybe Julius will come by to get some Pro Pics

Wow, very cool snakes, Brian. Do they ever come up on land or just come up to the surface for air? How difficult would you say their care is? You can see the feeder fish in the first pic hiding from the snake and looking scared out of his wits.
As for picture quality, there was a short article on photographing underwater herps. The guy said it was rather difficult to get a good quality picture through glass and water. There was a picture of an elephant trunk snake, and the quality was considerably worse than yours. I'll search for the issue for you.

Sorry mate!!!??
It's kinda late,or should I say early here.
Yeah we do have two species of Acrochordus (spelling???) here , not the javinicus
, actually caught one in a cast net while fishing last year.
Beautiful animal.
Have read a paper on their husbandry on the net, I searched madly but couldn't find, sorry man.

Congratulations!!!!
You may want to consider separate enclosures until the snakes have become established and you feel comfortable about their care. This way you can monitor their food intake.

Don't know anything about these snakes. The following is from some of my reference material:
Scientific name: Acrochordus javanicus
"Should be kept in spacious warmwater aquariums, with ample hiding places such as submerged tree roots. Juveniles require a land section that must be easily accessible; adults are less dependent on land. Food should be live fish. Adults often refuse food and may have to be force fed."

Very cool BW. I considered gettng one of these, but after reading what little I could find, I decided I didn't have the space to house one as an adult, and I didn't think I could keep up with their care. It sounded like an awful lot of work, and I was afraid I would fall behind and the animal would suffer. Very cool to see pics, though!

BW, are these wc or captive born animals, Im guessing wc since they are not widely kept in captivity, here or overseas.
I do believe they prefer brackish water, and like large tanks with lots of cover.
I will check on some of my books, I have one that has a few pages of info on the java sp.

The Mertens book, thats cool.
Look for the Snakes of Thailand and their husbandry.
Meril Cox
Krieger publishing
It has quite extensive info on their captive care, well, when I say extensive, thats compared to what is already out there.
So its still not a lot.
