Re: San Antonio Zoo DUW!!!!!!!
I would say the Afrock was probably 12-15ft. Hard to tell when they aren't straight. The brown bear was really funny also. I swear he was smiling at times. He would grin, drink some water, then grin again. Such personality for an animal of that nature.

Re: San Antonio Zoo DUW!!!!!!!
It really is a great zoo. The exhibits are really kept nice. A lot of attention to detail is paid. Ive been to many but I really do like this one. They are currently working on a new African exhibit which from what we could see, looks like it is going to be huuuuuge! I will have to return next year to see what they are creating.

Awesome pics! There's a polar bear at the Philly Zoo with what seems like the same personality of your brown bear. They're some of my favorite animals to observe at the zoo

Re: San Antonio Zoo DUW!!!!!!!
it really is a nice zoo and from what I saw, the enclosures are kept nice and clean everyone seemed nice and healthy as well
The eyelash was gorgeous!!! It took almost all my zoom power to get him though, hahaha... I was happy with the gabby shots I got... He was right there up front

We have aruba island rattlesnakes here in Jacksonville now as well, but I've never seen a gharial. I didn't know there were any on display in the US.

Re: San Antonio Zoo DUW!!!!!!!
Jax zoo is cool, I've been there a couple of times. I don't think they had the unicolors there last time I went.
There's a few zoos with gharials, I can only think of St. Augustine, Dallas/Ft. Worth (pretty sure) and I think Atlanta maybe.
Bears are hard to keep occupied in zoos. They need a TON of enrichment to keep them from developing self-mutilating stereotypical behaviors. Pacing, sitting in corners, over grooming, licking themselves, etc are all common in captive bears.

Re: San Antonio Zoo DUW!!!!!!!
Awesome pics. I haven't been to the san antonio zoo in a few years, looks pretty nice. Do they still have the black footed ferrets? I remember I was sooo excited to see them, then when we got to the enclosure all you could see was one little black foot sticking out of a log. LOL.

Thanks everyone. I don't recall any black-footed ferrets though. Im sure I would remember that. But I may just have looked them over. Its a pretty big place as you know.
