That's me on the left and Faust is the 9ft 110lb Komodo Dragon. He was cool, like a big puppy.

Wow.. That is just awesome. How intimidating was that dragon being so close to it? I bet it is a site to see during feeding time also.

That is Saweeeeet!!!! I wonder if being in captivity, and with a controlled diet, if there is a significant reduction in the bacteria in their saliva?

Very nice. It is always fun to be somewhere where you are NOT always the top of the food chain!
BTW: At least you didn't where white sneakers!

HAHA!! No poopy!
When the Komodo was coming up to me I was told to take a few steps back because he might decide to climb me. As we walked into the the room he tucked his head between the keeper's legs, just like a puppy would. Don't know about the connection between the diet and saliva but I would assume that they would have the saliva anyway because they can't easily overpower big prey. I am sure the saliva weakens the prey soon after the bite(s). He wasn't very tall but you could tell he was all power, he was solid as a rock.

they would defianately see a reduction in bacteria. that is if they were not eating decaying meat that died from a bacterial infection. Fresh meat= less bacteria to replenish "bacterial venom" but they do have many different kinds of bacteria in there mouths. (over 50 i think). I wouldn't want to take a hit to see if it was less effective.
