.. I found this Rhinocerous beetle in the redfoot tortoise pen. The larvae of these neat insects live in the mulch and manure of the enclosure.

I think I saw one of those in Mexico once and screamed loud enough to wake the whole village. At this distance, they're pretty interesting. And yes, even cute, in that "ET's little brother" kind of way.

Hi.. the adult size does vary some within each type depending on the growing conditions for the larvae. After they develop into the adult stage (as in those photos) they won't grow, as far as I know.

I think it is possible to keep these as pets but I can't give any advice on how to do it. I let these things go whenever I encounter them..
