Nice looking ball
BUt Ya know... You have this coming in regards to this one also >>>>
What you did to obtain this snake is NOT very responsible at all to say the least ! Stuff like this is something that will lead to stricter policies for those of us whom want to continue keeping even possibly ...UGH.

Nice looking ball. However, I agree with Lori...not very responsible smuggling reptiles where prohibited.

hey,
I also agree with Lori... but if its almost impossible even to find a snake on this island and if you want it really badly you have to this this!
I don't really know the laws ...but I know ... ALLthe snakes that I know of on the island are smuggled or born from a smuggled snake. Its not that i don't want to do it the legal way and get a vet check in the US.find somebody who has the papers in the states to export exotic animals ..then find a shipping company who will freeze the freaking snake before its on the island. and then it has to stay at the airport for a minimum of 2 weeks ..and if the animal dies they won't pay for a new one ..
I'm not willing to take that risk for a system that doesn't even work! and for people who don't (julius was here)about animals.
I know its not the legal way ....but this island just doesn't work and I'm not willing to take that risk to let my snake to get killed by people who just don't know what they are doing.
nobody has a license to keap snakes on the island even the cops keap snakes illegally.

I like your snake man...
Although it's not good to do illegal things for your snake... No one of any power to do anything about it will ever know...
And if you think about it so much stuff is let slide in the US too when it comes to herps... aregentine boas and dumeril's boas get moved around like nothing... It may not be legal but that's how it happens... But what is anyone going to do?

Actually, if someone was to do something about it, just think of what bad names would be giving to all hobbyists. I know how some people want snakes really bad and they don't always go the legal ways, but in the future it can affect us.

Veg... as far as the Argentines and Dums getting moved around the US, it is perfectly legal. Their 'protection' Status according to CITES means that they can not be WC and exported nor can they be shipped outside the country without MASSIVE amounts of paperwork and licensing.
Dums in the states are nearly all related and serious inbreeding is happening. If someone, somewhere in a high position, would just open their eyes and look at the problem, getting a small number of WC specimens in to the US for breeding to widen the gene base would do wonders for the Dum population. THEN, after a good breeding season, take some babies back and release them....
Argentines are everywhere in the US now. There is a much wider gene base so it would be good to just have a release program with these beautiful snakes, too.
Just my opinion

Thomasito...well, I wish I could say I've never done anything "questionable" in regards to reptiles in my past, but that doesn't mean your smuggling of even a ball python is a good thing. People do go to jail for such behavior...your friend took a great risk for you! Anyway, that's all I'll say about it.
I just wanted to touch upon one other thing that ldydrgn brought up. Reintroducing captive bred animals into the wild shouldn't be a reason for keeping any of the anumals we do. It's not quite that simple, ecologically speaking. Anyway, the point I intended to make is keep and breed these animals because you love them and want to contribute to easing pressure on wild caught animals! I agree, Steve. But the fact is that the wild populations are dwindling fast. They can't get an accurate count of argies in the wild because they have been hunted for their skins, etc. Plus the fact that many have been exported out of their land. I feel because we do keep, breed and raise these beauties in captivity, we owe it to the land to send some back...try to make up for the original 'raping' as it were. There won't be any CB Dums left in the future because of the inbreeding that is occuring. They will all eventually be all massively defective with physical attributes or immune deficiencies. I would hate to see them become extinct not only in the wild, but in personal collections, too. I understand that it wouldn't be 'easy' to just do a release, but, anyway...LOL You know what I mean. I do know what you mean, and I didn't intend any offense. I just wanted to avoid some youngin' down the road who may breed his kingsnake or gopher snake for the first time to think releasing the excess litter might help "nature", with good intentions. As a matter of fact I'm all for organized and scientific re-establishment of our vanishing species (I do environmental restoration of plants species by profession). Sad to think that already the only way to see some animals is in the zoo!!!
